Stealing to go to Cambodia to gamble, lost nearly 1 billion VND

On November 21, at the first instance trial, the People's Court of Da Nang City sentenced Nguyen Huu Phuc (32 years old, residing in Quang Phong Ward, Ba Don Town, Quang Binh ) to 17 years in prison for theft of property.

According to the indictment, in the early morning of November 25, 2022, Nguyen Huu Phuc brought 1 pair of pliers and 2 metal bars to store F. on Dien Bien Phu street (Thanh Khe Dong ward, Thanh Khe district, Da Nang city).

Phuc used pliers to break the lock and break in to steal, but at this time there were many people walking in front of the store, Phuc could not take the property out so he left.

Phuc received 17 years in prison

On December 7, 2022, Phuc continued to look for vulnerable phone stores to steal from and targeted store F. on Ngo Quyen Street (An Hai Bac Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang City).

In the early morning of December 8, 2022, Phuc brought pliers and 2 metal bars, quickly used pliers to cut the outside roller door lock, cut the mirror lock chain and broke inside. Phuc went to the safe and used 2 metal bars to pry open the safe, stealing 302.5 million VND.

Phuc then continued to go to the phone display shelves, used 2 iron bars to pry open the cabinet door and took 32 mobile phones (including 11 iPhone 13, 12 iPhone 14, 9 iPhone 12), 2 Apple Watch smartwatches, 2 iPad Gen 10 tablets, 1 imported 20W charger accessory. The total value of the assets was more than 650 million VND.

Phuc threw away the pliers and two metal bars at the scene and rode his motorbike to Quang Ngai City. Phuc continued to take a bus to Ho Chi Minh City, rented two rooms in a motel, one to hide the stolen property, and one to stay.

The next morning, Phuc changed the color of the motorbike and attached a fake license plate. From December 10, 2022 to January 7, 2023, Phuc took the phones to sell in many places in Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City, selling them via social networks.

Phuc confessed that due to his gambling addiction, he often went to Cambodia to gamble, which led to debt, so he started stealing. He continued to gamble with the money he earned from selling his cell phone and stealing it in Cambodia. After losing everything, Phuc returned to Ho Chi Minh City, preparing to continue stealing, but was arrested.

The investigation agency determined that the total value of the assets that Phuc appropriated was nearly 1 billion VND. Meanwhile, Nguyen Huu Phuc had 2 previous convictions for property theft.
