According to an announcement from his family, Lieutenant General Khuất Duy Tiến, Hero of the People's Armed Forces, passed away at 4:10 PM on November 23, 2024, at the age of 94.

Lieutenant General Khuất Duy Tiến was born on February 27, 1931, into a poor peasant family in Đại Đồng commune, Thạch Thất district, Sơn Tây (now part of Hanoi ).

At the young age of 13 or 14, he was enlightened and joined a secret society. When the August Revolution broke out, he and the young people in the village followed the adults to seize power in the commune and district.

During the nationwide resistance war, he actively participated in propaganda, mobilizing the masses, and eliminating evil and injustice in his locality. Unfortunately, he was captured, tortured, and imprisoned in Son Tay and Hoa Lo prisons, but he remained steadfast. After escaping from prison, he continued his activities and enlisted in September 1950 in the 48th Regiment, 320th Delta Division, continuously fighting in the provinces of Son Tay, Hoa Binh, Ha Dong, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, and Thai Binh , achieving many outstanding victories with his unit.

After graduating from the Army Officer School 1, he worked in Military Region 3 for a period before joining the 320th Division to fight in the South. He participated in battles in the Quang Tri battlefield, Route 9 - Southern Laos, Dak To - Tan Canh, the campaign to liberate the Central Highlands, and the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign to completely liberate the South, as well as fulfilling his international duty in Cambodia.

Following that, he spent nearly 10 years as commander of the 3rd Army Corps, participating in defending key areas, protecting the northern border of the Fatherland, and organizing the return march to the Central Highlands to build a main army corps in a new strategic position, both ready for combat and participating in building a secure and prosperous Central Highlands. Before retiring, he also spent 10 years as Director of the Military Personnel Department and Principal of the Army Officer School 1.

For his contributions, Lieutenant General Khuất Duy Tiến was awarded many prestigious medals and decorations by the Party and the State, including: the Military Merit Order (Second and Third Class), the Victory Order against the French (Third Class), the Resistance Order against the Americans (First Class), two First Class Combat Merit Orders, the Glorious Soldier Order (First, Second, and Third Class), and the 60-Year Party Membership Badge...

On October 30, 2013, he was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State.
