This morning (October 19), Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy announced and presented the decision recognizing the rector for the 2020-2025 term.
The 6th Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy
Previously, on October 17, the Minister of Health signed a decision to recognize the President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Accordingly, Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat, Vice President in charge of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, was recognized as the President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy for the 2020-2025 term. With this decision, Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat became the 6th President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy to date.
Associate Professor Ngo Quoc Dat (47 years old, from Binh Duong province) began working at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2003 and has held many management positions in various units within the university.
Specifically, from March 2003, Associate Professor Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat was a lecturer in the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy. In September 2012, he held the position of Deputy Head of the Training Management Board (Faculty of Medicine); in June 2013, he became Deputy Head of the Department of Pathology (Faculty of Medicine); from September 2015, he became Deputy Head of the Faculty of Medicine and concurrently Head of the Laboratory Department (Faculty of Nursing, Technology and Medicine) from August 2022.
From March 2023, Associate Professor Ngo Quoc Dat served as Vice Rector in charge of academic affairs and became Vice Rector in charge of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City from August 2023 to the present.
Previously, on August 17th, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy announced a resolution appointing Associate Professor, Doctor, and Physician Vuong Thi Ngoc Lan as Vice Rector in charge of academic affairs for the 2020-2025 term.
Professor Tran Diep Tuan, Chairman of the University Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, delivered a speech at the ceremony.
Prioritize training in certain social science fields that are in high demand.
At the ceremony, the Permanent Deputy Minister of Health, Do Xuan Tuyen, congratulated the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy on completing the appointment of all leadership positions after a long period of time.
Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen suggested that the Party Committee, the School Council, and the School Board should first focus on reviewing the School Council's operational regulations and the school's working regulations. In particular, a mechanism for close coordination between the School Board and the School Council should be established to avoid overlapping responsibilities. In addition, the Deputy Minister also requested that the school effectively plan, train, and nurture its successor team.
Regarding professional work, the Deputy Minister suggested that the school open several more majors, prioritizing training in some social fields that are in high demand and severely lacking, such as: family medicine, forensic medicine, and emergency medical services…
Permanent Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen also noted that regarding the transformation of the operating model from a school to a university, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy needs to submit a proposal to the competent authority for approval.
Officially handing over the baton to the new Rector of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Professor Tran Diep Tuan, Chairman of the University Council, shared more about the university's vision from now until 2030-2045. Specifically, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy aims to develop into an internationally accredited university, ranking among the top 100 universities in Asia with a solid foundation in education and training; possessing an excellent research center with strong, globally recognized research groups; closely cooperating with the business community in research and technology transfer; and having a university-affiliated healthcare system with internationally accredited specialized centers and model teaching hospitals contributing to elevating the Vietnamese healthcare system.
Thus, after many years without a rector, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy now officially has a rector. The school's management board currently consists of three people: Associate Professor Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat as Rector; and two Vice Rectors: Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Chinh and Associate Professor Dr. Vuong Thi Ngoc Lan.
