Vietnam baseball team has no chance to compete for medals at SEA Games 33

The Vietnamese men's baseball team failed to qualify for the medal group at the 33rd SEA Games after a 12-19 defeat to Singapore in the decisive match on December 8.

This was a crucial match, as Vietnam had to win to secure a place in the top 4, the group of teams that would advance to the medal round. Despite their best efforts, the players were unable to create any surprises against their technically superior opponents.

Before the match against Singapore, Vietnam's group stage journey showed many signs of instability. On December 7, the team suffered a 0-16 defeat against Laos, revealing a series of limitations in all three areas: pitching, fielding and hitting. After three matches with a 5-2 win over Malaysia but a 0-16 loss to Thailand and Laos, Vietnam fell to the bottom of the group and had to beat Singapore to keep their hopes alive.

However, in the crucial match, the Vietnamese team continued to face difficulties against Singapore's attacking power. Despite scoring 12 points, the team still let the opponent surpass them with 19 points, thereby falling to the bottom of the table. This result officially closed the chance of Vietnam baseball entering the top 4 and competing for medals at this year's SEA Games. This is also the first sport of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 33rd SEA Games that no longer has the ability to compete for medals.

After 4 matches, the Vietnamese men's baseball team scored 18 points but lost by 56 points, a number that shows a significant gap compared to strong teams in the region and is a clear warning of issues that need to be improved in the coming time.

There are still 2 rounds of group stage matches left, but when the door to the medals has closed, the journey of the Vietnamese baseball team at the 33rd SEA Games is considered to have come to an end. The team will continue to compete in the remaining matches to gain experience and aim to improve their skills in the upcoming tournaments.
