Master's degree admissions: The industry is full of candidates

Nationwide, in the 5 years from the 2017-2018 to 2021-2022 school year, the number of candidates admitted to master's programs at schools decreased by about 15,000 people.

Also in these 5 years, the number of admitted students continuously decreased, averaging about 3,000 people/year.

In terms of specific schools, almost no school can meet its master's enrollment quota. Even prestigious, long-standing universities with many majors have no candidates.

However, some "hot" majors have more candidates than the quota, making it not easy to get a place in a master's program.

However, this is rare. Candidates from white majors account for an overwhelming proportion.

For example, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), the majors have many candidates applying for admission by entrance exam. Most of the remaining majors only consider admission.

Some majors such as clinical psychology, English teaching methods, and journalism always have a very high number of candidates registering for the exam. In the first round of 2023, the psychology major has more than 4 times the number of candidates registering for the exam.

On the contrary, more than 2/3 of the majors of this school have no candidates registered.

The situation is similar in many other universities, both economic and technical. At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, in the first round of admissions in 2023, there was one major that had no successful candidates. The remaining 15 majors did not have enough students to enroll.

Many majors at this school have only a few successful candidates. The second round of admissions in 2023 of this school is not better than the first round.

In the economic sector, Foreign Trade University is considered the leading university. While the number of applicants for undergraduate admission is high, at the postgraduate level, almost no major can meet its enrollment quota.

The number of master's degree programs at Foreign Trade University is not large, but in the first admission period of 2023, no program had the number of candidates registering to take the exam reaching 50% of the target.
