Recently, the United Nations Children's Fund in Vietnam (UNICEF) and FPT Corporation have signed an initial commitment to cooperate to deploy technology-based solutions on green transformation, data analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) in child protection and education activities in Vietnam.
The agreement between UNICEF and FPT focuses on assessing greenhouse gas emissions in the environment related to children, developing an AI system for early warning of natural disasters, and promoting digital skills education and protecting children online.
UNICEF brings international knowledge and experience on children’s rights, policy advocacy and resource mobilization capabilities to align technology solutions with real-world needs. FPT contributes its technological capabilities and a team of experts mastering AI solutions, big data and modern digital infrastructure.
In the environmental field, the two sides plan to deploy the VertZéro greenhouse gas inventory solution developed by FPT into a pilot to measure emissions at a number of schools, hospitals or community centers for children. The collected data will help identify sources of air pollution and the level of impact on children, thereby making recommendations for improvements such as installing solar energy, increasing insulation or using energy-saving lighting systems.
UNICEF will use these figures to develop child-focused environmental impact reports and promote emissions reduction policies.
In the field of natural disaster prevention, FPT researches and integrates AI into forest, land and water monitoring systems to provide early warnings of floods, landslides, droughts or seasonal water shortages. UNICEF works with authorities to exploit national data sources and apply analytical results to develop disaster response policies, contributing to protecting millions of children and families living in areas at high risk of natural disasters.
UNICEF and FPT jointly research and implement programs to help children and adolescents access safe technology , learn digital skills and AI, and support parents to accompany their children.
In particular, digital education platforms developed by FPT will play a core role: Khaothi.Online - a digital testing system that supports capacity assessment, improving testing and learning quality; Meduverse - a learning ecosystem applying AI, VR/AR, big data and gamification for children aged 4-15; and CodeLearn - a programming and digital skills learning platform for students.
The solutions are tailored to the general education and preschool curriculum, integrating adaptive learning features to support students in developing their personal learning paths. In addition, the two sides coordinate to organize teacher training programs and community activities, contributing to building a safe, comprehensive and equitable digital learning environment for all children.
Ms. Silvia Danailov, Chief Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), said: "To protect children's rights and promote sustainable development in Vietnam, we need the cooperation of many partners, in which technology enterprises play a key role. Through this cooperation, UNICEF and FPT are committed to leveraging the power of technology to improve the well-being of Vietnamese children."
“We will promote innovative solutions to protect vulnerable children, strengthen data-driven policies and build sustainable, climate-resilient systems – always putting Vietnamese children at the center of all efforts,” Ms. Silvia Danailov emphasized.
Mr. Than Minh Ngoc, Director of Operations at FPT IS, FPT Corporation, shared: “The cooperation event between UNICEF and FPT has become a testament to the new trend of cooperation, where international organizations and technology enterprises join hands to solve global problems but closely linked to local realities. FPT is committed to mobilizing the power of technology, together with UNICEF, not only to solve current urgent challenges, but also to lay the foundation for long-term changes, contributing to building a safer, more inclusive and equitable living environment for Vietnamese children.”
According to UNICEF, children are the most vulnerable group to global challenges such as climate change, natural disasters or inequality in access to technology because of their dependence, limited coping capacity and the long-term impact of these issues on physical and mental development.
The cooperation between UNICEF and FPT is not only a story of digital transformation, but also an affirmation that technology can become an effective tool to bring a safe, clean living environment and fair development opportunities for all children.
