Vietnam - Laos strengthen cooperation in border protection

According to a VNA reporter in Laos, on the evening of October 10, in the capital Vientiane, a delegation of the Vietnam Border Guard Command (BĐBP) led by Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai, Commander of the BĐBP, paid a courtesy visit to Senior Lieutenant General Khamlieng Outhakaysone, Lao Minister of National Defense.

At the meeting, General Khamlieng Outhakaysone warmly welcomed the delegation from the Vietnam Border Guard Command to visit and work in Laos, affirming that the visit is of great significance in further strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States, two Armies and peoples of Vietnam and Laos, and at the same time contributing to maintaining peace , stability, and social order and security along the common border.

The Lao Defense Minister suggested that the two sides continue to build effective cooperation mechanisms between the two armies, especially in the fields of agriculture , cultivation, and animal husbandry, while maintaining the tradition of regular visits and delegation exchanges in the spirit of trust, solidarity, and special friendship.

General Khamlieng Outhakaysone proposed that the Vietnam Border Guard Command and the Lao People's Army Border Guard Command continue to closely coordinate in the prevention and control of cross-border drug trafficking; prevent human trafficking; combat illegal activities and distortion of the Party and State's guidelines and policies; and promptly address factors that threaten to destabilize the border region.

On behalf of the working delegation, Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai respectfully thanked Senior Lieutenant General Khamlieng Outhakaysone for taking the time to welcome him, and conveyed the warm regards of General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, to the Minister of National Defense of Laos.

Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai stated that this visit aims to further strengthen the close cooperative relationship between the two border guard forces, contributing to consolidating the special solidarity between the armies and people of the two countries. Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai also reported on the results of the working session between the Vietnam-Laos Border Guard Command and the Lao Minister of National Defense.

During the bilateral talks earlier that day between the Border Guard Commands of Vietnam and Laos, both sides noted that in recent years, the Border Guard Forces of Vietnam and Laos have regularly organized meetings and exchanges of delegations, achieving many positive results; they have also supported each other with technical means, military equipment, medical supplies, and jointly organized commemorative activities, visits, and congratulations on the occasion of major holidays of both countries and their armed forces.

Both sides highly appreciated the effectiveness of joint patrol activities along the border, contributing to strengthening security, consolidating trust, and educating the younger generation of both countries about the meaning and importance of the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos. Both sides also agreed on a plan for future cooperation, focusing on drug prevention and control, considering this a key area of ​​cooperation between the two border guard forces; and committed to close guidance and effective coordination to successfully complete assigned tasks.

At the conclusion of the talks, the Border Guard Commands of Vietnam and Laos signed a Memorandum of Understanding on comprehensive cooperation for 2025, affirming their determination to further develop the cooperative relationship between the two forces in a deeper, more practical, and effective manner.
