Hoang Ngoc Bao Khanh (born in 2012), one of the characters in episode 147, is currently in 8th grade at Ngo The Lan Secondary School. Khanh lacked the loving embrace of a father from a young age. When she was two years old, her mother also passed away due to a terrible cancer. Since then, she has grown up with her maternal grandmother, under the care and protection of her uncle's family in Quang Dien commune, Hue city.
Bao Khanh helps with household chores after school. She always tries to help her family to the best of her ability.
Ms. Hoang Thi Tuyet Mai (1956) – Bao Khanh's maternal grandmother – has an intellectual disability, is unable to fully comprehend things, and always needs care. Each month, she receives 750,000 VND in disability allowance, while Khanh also receives 500,000 VND in support for orphans.
After the sudden death of her mother, Bao Khanh and her grandmother lived with her maternal uncle, Hoang Cong Tuan (1961) – her grandmother's younger brother, whose wife is Ho Thi Thin (1964). Mr. Tuan's family were farmers, relying on five acres of rice paddies for their livelihood. Despite their modest circumstances, they extended their arms and cared for Khanh and her grandmother with all their love.
Khánh's eyes welled up with tears as she spoke about her fear of losing her loved ones.
Despite living in poverty, lacking both material and emotional support, Hoang Ngoc Bao Khanh always studies diligently. She constantly worries about whether she will ever be able to go to school again, but more than anyone else, Khanh understands that knowledge is the only path to a better future. She dreams of one day being able to support herself, take care of her grandmother, and repay her uncle's family for taking her in.
Never having fully uttered the word "mother," never once feeling the embrace of a father, Khanh grew up with an unspoken loneliness. She felt sorry for herself for not having a complete family like her friends, and her greatest fear was that her grandmother, her only support, would leave her forever.
On set, singer Emily hugged Khanh tightly, hoping to give her more positive energy. The singer was moved by the girl's maturity and understanding, and hoped Khanh would always maintain her faith. Rapper BigDaddy admired Khanh's willpower and determination. He noticed that despite lacking affection and resources, she was still a good and diligent student, which was a bright spot. The rapper believed that inner strength and never giving up would help Khanh achieve success.
Singer Emily hugged Bao Khanh tightly, showering him with love and encouragement to help him overcome adversity.
The second character, Tran Thi Thuy Tien (born in 2012), a 7th-grade student at Le Xuan Secondary School, lost her father before she was even born. At just three months old, her mother remarried, only occasionally calling to check on her or sending a few hundred thousand dong. “It wasn’t until I was 10 that I realized I didn’t have both parents like other children. I was very sad and felt very lonely. Now I understand and accept my fate, so I feel less sad ,” Thuy Tien shared.
Mrs. Lanh's eyes were filled with deep worry about the uncertain future of her poor grandchildren.
Currently, Tien lives with her grandmother and two cousins in Dan Dien commune, Hue city. Tien's two cousins also lost their fathers at a young age. After losing both of her sons, Mrs. Truong Thi Lanh (1969), Tien's grandmother, has been bearing the pain of "a white-haired parent burying their young children" while simultaneously acting as both father and mother to her grandchildren.
Mrs. Lanh's family originally raised cattle for a living, but after the epidemic, their entire herd died, leaving them with an unpaid debt of 20 million VND. She still pays over 120,000 VND in interest each month. The four of them—grandmother and three grandchildren—live on a social welfare allowance of 1 million VND per month, 1.5 million VND every six months from the Women's Association, and the support of neighbors. Previously, they lived in a dilapidated, leaky shack. The local authorities have helped build them a new house, simple but sufficient to protect them from the sun and rain.
"Why is this family life so miserable?" – MC Huynh Lap couldn't help but exclaim, choked with emotion, upon witnessing the heartbreaking situation of Mrs. Lanh and her three grandchildren.
Despite lacking both material and emotional support, Thuy Tien remains diligent and excels in her studies. For her, her grandmother is everything—her only source of love and support. Tien always fears the day her grandmother is gone, leaving her alone and helpless. She dreams of becoming a doctor to help poor patients and share love with others.
Watching the family introduction video again, Mrs. Lanh burst into tears, sobbing because she felt sorry for her grandchildren. MC Huynh Lap also couldn't hold back his tears. "Why is this family life so hard? She's old, there's no man in the house, and she has to take care of three young children all by herself, it's so difficult. Seeing her fixing the electricity alone makes me very worried," the male MC said, his voice choked with emotion.
In addition, backstage, Huynh Lap shared that he clearly felt the responsibility of hosting a charity program filled with love like " Vietnamese Family Shelter . " "The microphone is light, but the responsibility is heavy. The hardest part is guiding the audience's emotional flow without interruption. I told myself that if there were any technical mistakes, genuine affection would compensate ," he said. The male MC expressed his desire to continue with the program long-term to bring more hope and motivation to disadvantaged families.
Watch the Vietnamese Family Home program airing at 8:20 PM every Friday on HTV7.
