On April 22nd, regarding the incident in Lam Dong where "a patient had to undergo surgery because the hospital provided incorrect X-ray results," the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health , requested the Lam Dong Department of Health and the Lam Dong Provincial General Hospital to learn from this experience, conduct a thorough review to clarify the responsibilities of individuals and groups involved, and propose appropriate disciplinary measures.
The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management also requested the Director of the Lam Dong Department of Health to contact and meet with the family, apologize, and consider the wishes of the patient and their family to resolve the matter fairly and reasonably. At the same time, it requested the Lam Dong Department of Health to submit a quick report to the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management before 5 PM on February 24th for reporting to the Ministry of Health leadership and publicizing the results in the media.
Previously, on February 20th, Mr. NHH went to Lam Dong Provincial General Hospital for an examination as advised by a doctor in Lam Ha district, Lam Dong province. There, the doctors requested an X-ray. After receiving the results, the doctors informed him that there was a tubular wire in his abdomen and advised laparoscopic surgery to remove it. Mr. H was surprised by the X-ray results and stated that he had undergone kidney surgery previously and had annual check-ups, so a tubular wire couldn't possibly be in his body. However, after consulting with the doctors, Mr. H and his wife agreed to laparoscopic surgery to remove the foreign object – the plastic tube – from his abdomen.
Surprisingly, during the surgery, it was discovered that there were no tubes or wires in Mr. H.'s abdomen. Therefore, the doctors had Mr. H. retaken an X-ray and found that the imaging department had mistakenly given him the results for another patient. Following this incident, the hospital reported the matter to the Lam Dong Department of Health and held a meeting to review and learn from the experience with the surgical team, and contacted the patient's family to apologize.
