Xuan Son's first steps without crutches
Yesterday (February 7th), striker Xuan Son began walking without crutches. His movements are still very difficult, following a serious injury sustained in the second leg of the 2024 AFF Cup final on February 5th. Currently, Xuan Son still needs support bars on both sides to help him walk. However, Xuan Son remains optimistic and ready to face the challenging obstacles ahead.
Xuan Son is putting down his crutches and practicing walking, striving to return to the football field as soon as possible.
According to his recovery plan, Xuan Son needs at least another 3-5 months before he can return to the pitch. That's a considerable amount of time, requiring the injured player to be extremely patient and strictly adhere to the medical instructions of the medical team.
While Xuan Son is recovering from injury, the Vietnamese national team still has international duties to fulfill, specifically two matches in the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers: against Laos on March 25th and against Malaysia on June 10th. The Vietnamese team's objective in these two matches is to win, aiming for a place in the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
In particular, the match at Bukit Jalil Stadium (in Kuala Lumpur) in Malaysia on June 10th will be anything but easy. This team is a major rival of the Vietnamese national team in the Asian qualifiers, and they are highly determined to defeat Vietnam.
The fit players will be further motivated by Xuan Son's efforts.
With Xuan Son absent from the match against Malaysia on June 10th, our task of scoring against Malaysia will be more difficult. However, the remaining players will strive to ensure that Coach Kim Sang-sik's team does not weaken in the absence of Nguyen Xuan Son.
Seeing Xuan Son's efforts to return to the pitch will give the remaining players more motivation to perform better in the future. Xuan Son suffered a serious injury but did not give up, still hoping to one day return to playing on the Vietnamese football field, so the healthy players have no reason to lack effort.
For national team strikers or those with the potential to be called up in the near future, such as Tien Linh, Tuan Hai, Van Toan, Vi Hao, Thanh Binh, or Viet Cuong, Manh Dung, Quoc Viet… their efforts on the field in the coming days will determine their starting positions in the matches against Laos and Malaysia in the Asian Cup qualifiers.
The players themselves undoubtedly want to prove that Vietnamese football always has enough talent to stand firm on the international stage, despite the absence of one or a few key players at certain times. They want to demonstrate their ability to shoulder the goal-scoring responsibility during the period when Nguyen Xuan Son is temporarily away from the Vietnamese national team due to injury!
