Project Esther concept showcases Razer Sensa HD Haptics technology

Project Esther is a prototype, but Razer's Sensa HD Haptics platform behind it is highly active and ready for game developers to adopt.

Razer introduced the Project Esther concept at CES 2024.

In a 15-minute test with the Project Esther demo, players experienced how tactile sensations reacted and changed as objects in the game moved closer to the screen. The demo then transitioned to a forest setting, where wind and raindrops created different sensations on their backs.

The prototype was created to demonstrate the new Sensa technology, which combines what users see and hear on the screen with tactile sensations while gaming. Razer wants Sensa technology to foster a diverse ecosystem of products that people can choose to suit their gaming style.

All audio content can be integrated with Sensa, so whether users are playing games or watching movies, as long as there is sound, Sensa can create a corresponding sensation. In the demo with the game Mortal Kombat, users can notice various haptic effects from the gaming pads for each weapon type, where the laser has more vibration feel, while the machine gun has more recoil feedback.

If this is the future of gaming, it will offer gamers an exciting experience to enhance their gaming experience. While Razer is using it in the form of padding, nothing prevents other companies from using it to create other experiences, such as the Nintendo Power Glove, to enhance the immersive gaming experience.
