557 farming households participate in FSC-certified forest planting

Today, February 11, the People's Committee of Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province coordinated with the National Timber Company Limited - Quang Tri Branch to organize a consultation program with relevant parties on the FSC-linked sustainable forest management system in Cam Lo district.

At the conference, delegates heard a report from a consultant on the results of implementing the sustainable forest management plan and FSC certification in Cam Lo district over the past year. Accordingly, after nearly a year of implementation, the consultant and the National Timber Company Limited - Quang Tri Branch have closely coordinated with the People's Committee of Cam Lo district and the communes of Cam Thanh, Cam Chinh, Cam Nghia, Cam Tuyen, and Cam Hieu to establish representative committees for household groups; conduct surveys and build maps according to land use and a list of forest owners who meet the criteria for FSC participation; hold meetings at the commune and village levels to disseminate the benefits of participating in FSC forest planting; and conduct on-site reviews of the current forest status... To date, 2,018 hectares of forest belonging to 557 households in the aforementioned communes have had their documentation completed by the consultant, meeting the requirements for FSC certification assessment.

Based on the initial results, the consultants and the National Wood Company Limited - Quang Tri Branch proposed several solutions to the District People's Committee, the representative boards of household groups, specialized agencies, and the Party committees and authorities of the communes to gradually resolve some difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process.

Strengthen propaganda to enhance the role and responsibility of Party committees, authorities and people, actively coordinate and create favorable conditions to help consultants complete the next steps, in order to soon grant FSC certification for the above forest area.
