According to a report by the General Statistics Office, in October (from September 26th to October 25th, 2024), there were 1,850 traffic accidents nationwide, resulting in 896 deaths and 1,347 injuries.
Compared to September 2024, the number of traffic accidents increased by 5.1%; the number of deaths decreased by 1.1%; and the number of injuries increased by 7.6%.
Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 7.5%; the number of deaths decreased by 1.6%; and the number of injuries decreased by 11.3%.
In the first 10 months of 2024, the whole country experienced 19,513 traffic accidents, resulting in 8,990 deaths and 14,505 injuries. Compared to the same period last year, the number of traffic accidents increased by 5.7%; the number of deaths decreased by 8.4%; and the number of injuries increased by 13.9%.
On average, during the first 10 months of 2024, 64 traffic accidents occurred nationwide each day, resulting in 30 deaths and 48 injuries.
Damage caused by natural disasters in October was mainly due to heavy rains, floods, and inundation. There were 14 deaths and 33 injuries; 777 houses collapsed, were swept away, or damaged; 9,600 livestock and poultry died; 2,800 hectares of rice and crops were flooded and damaged; the total value of property damage caused by natural disasters in the month was 235.4 billion VND, a decrease of 77.2% compared to the same period last year.
In the first 10 months of this year, natural disasters caused 525 deaths and disappearances, 2,136 injuries; 26,200 houses collapsed or were damaged; 5.1 million livestock and poultry died; 90,300 hectares of crops and 334,200 hectares of rice were flooded and damaged; the total estimated value of property damage is 78,082.4 billion VND, more than 21.2 times higher than the same period in 2023.
During the month (September 18 - October 17, 2024), 282 fires and explosions occurred nationwide, resulting in 4 deaths and 8 injuries, with estimated damages of 150.7 billion VND, 2.2 times higher than the previous month and nearly 8 times higher than the same period last year. Overall, in the first 10 months of this year, 3,475 fires and explosions occurred nationwide, resulting in 89 deaths and 95 injuries, with estimated damages of 368.1 billion VND, a decrease of 3.1% compared to the same period last year.
During the same period, authorities detected 1,940 environmental violations in 51 out of 63 localities, of which 1,831 were processed with total fines of 29.8 billion VND, an increase of 46.0% compared to the previous month and a 12.8% increase compared to the same period last year. Overall, in the first 10 months of this year, authorities detected 19,282 environmental violations, of which 17,683 were processed with total fines of 254.5 billion VND, an increase of 4.4% compared to the same period last year.
