Strong effects from trade promotion activities

Mr. Tran Van Hao - Director of Hai Duong Department of Industry and Trade said that in recent years, given the developments in the domestic and international markets; especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic seriously affecting consumption and export. Hai Duong province has always paid attention to trade promotion activities to find and expand markets for consumption and export of lychees.

The province has assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to coordinate with the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Science and Technology; Thanh Ha District People's Committee and Chi Linh City to strengthen coordination in providing information, propaganda, promotion, and introduction of the province's lychee products on mass media, support businesses in participating in fairs and exhibitions, organize research delegations, survey domestic and international markets; link with domestic and foreign trade promotion organizations through the system of Trade Counselors; Vietnam Trade Offices abroad.

On the other hand, support farmers to access and implement advanced intensive farming processes to improve the quality of lychee; support organizations and businesses inside and outside the province to invest in building lychee growing areas according to VietGAP, Global GAP standards...

The province also organizes trade promotion conferences for lychees and agricultural products to seek and expand markets; link, cooperate, invest in production, improve product quality, and affirm the brand "Hai Duong lychees" in the domestic and international markets.

In 2 consecutive years (2021 and 2022), performing its role and functions, the Department of Industry and Trade has consulted with the Provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to organize 2 conferences to promote trade of lychee and typical products of the province on a scale not only national but also international - Mr. Tran Van Hao cited.

In 2021, the conference will be held in both direct and online formats, with the participation of 63 provinces and cities nationwide; especially connecting 31 online bridges in 14 countries and territories. 2021 is also the first year that Hai Duong lychees are sold on 4 prestigious domestic and international e-commerce platforms.

In 2022, the conference will continue to be held in a combined online and in-person format, including 66 main domestic and foreign bridges. Of which, 1 main bridge is at the Eastern Cultural Center; 36 foreign bridges in 14 countries and territories such as: China, USA, France, Australia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Belgium, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Kuwait and Hong Kong... and over 40 bridges in provinces and cities in the country connecting to the Conference such as: Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Da Nang, Hue, Dak Nong, Long An, Ben Tre, Cao Bang, Lai Chau... In addition, there are over 300 branch bridges of domestic and foreign organizations, businesses and individuals connecting to the conference.

The above trade promotion activities have created a strong effect on promoting the expansion of the consumption market and lychee export; enhancing the value and brand of Thanh Ha - Hai Duong lychee in the domestic and international markets; contributing greatly to the socio-economic development of the province, especially in the context that over the past 2 years, Hai Duong province has been heavily affected by the Covid-19 epidemic - Mr. Tran Van Hao emphasized.

Thanks to good trade promotion, searching and expanding domestic and export markets; along with that, actively innovating forms and methods of trade promotion, Hai Duong's lychee is always consumed smoothly; domestic and export markets are maintained and expanded. " Revenue from lychee is very high, each year is higher than the previous year . For example, in 2021 it will reach 1,000 - 1,200 billion VND; in 2022 it will reach 1,800 billion VND " - Mr. Hao informed.

"Standing side by side" with people and businesses to bring lychee far and wide

The Director of the Hai Duong Department of Industry and Trade commented that 2023 is forecast to continue to be a year with many adverse fluctuations, affecting the world economy and politics; input material prices for production continue to increase; climate change, natural disasters and epidemics are increasingly unpredictable and complicated.

Competition in domestic and export of agricultural products is increasingly fierce, especially the increasing market requirements for quality and standards of agricultural products along with the trend of protection and increasing trade barriers in the world, which significantly affects the agricultural production situation as well as maintaining the growth and sustainable development of the industry.

For lychee, 2023 is forecast to be a bumper crop; the province's lychee output is expected to reach about 65,000 - 67,000 tons; an increase of about 7-10% compared to 2022. This brings great economic value and joy to businesses, lychee growers and people in the province.

However, the consumption and export of lychees this year is expected to face many difficulties; especially for the Chinese market. Currently, China is still the province's major and main lychee export market and up to this point, China has abolished the Zero Covid policy. However, the Chinese Government is implementing Decrees 248 and 249 on the management of food quarantine objects and products; including the approval of growing area codes and packaging codes for Hai Duong's lychees, which has greatly affected the province's lychee exports.

To support farmers and businesses in producing and consuming lychees, the Department of Industry and Trade has promptly implemented and strengthened activities to search for and expand lychee export markets, especially to potential and demanding markets, Mr. Hao affirmed.

According to Mr. Hao, for the export market, along with promoting support, encouragement, and export promotion to markets that have cooperated in recent years such as: the US, EU, Australia, Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Thailand, etc., the Department of Industry and Trade directs the Trade Promotion Center to coordinate with functional units of the Trade Promotion Department, the Import-Export Department, the Department of Asia - Africa Market, the Department of Europe - America Market, etc. to actively seek and expand new, potential markets such as countries in the South American region; countries in Africa, etc. and right in China - a large market, bordering Vietnam.

On the other hand, for the domestic market, Mr. Tran Van Hao informed that the Department of Industry and Trade has soon had exchanges and connections with distribution corporations, wholesale markets, export enterprises, and traders consuming domestic agricultural products; coordinated with large technology enterprises (Lazada, Sendo, Viettel Post, VNPT...) to increase lychee trading activities on digital technology platforms.

Along with that, coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Thanh Ha District People's Committee and relevant agencies and units to grasp the situation of organizing lychee production. In order to carry out forecasting work well, have early orientations, prepare to build programs, plans, and plans to organize activities to promote lychee consumption for the 2023 crop.

Make a list and provide information on cooperatives and households with large lychee output in Hai Duong province to provide to businesses, purchasing agents, and domestic and foreign traders; send official dispatches to units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade such as the Trade Promotion Agency, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy; and the Domestic Market Department to request support and coordination to promote consumption, develop and expand the domestic market; especially the market in the Southern region and the southwestern provinces - where Hai Duong lychee is consumed very strongly.

The Department of Industry and Trade also organized meetings and working sessions with large domestic retail corporations and supermarkets such as Go Supermarket (formerly BigC), Fivimart, Intimex, Winmart, Mega Market, SatraMart, HaproMart and domestic consumer goods supermarkets...; large and reputable e-commerce platforms such as: Sendo, Tiki, Lazada, Shope...; businesses, domestic and foreign lychee purchasing and exporting centers; Chinese lychee purchasing and purchasing centers... connecting with lychee growers to sign contracts to purchase and consume Hai Duong's lychee.

Proactively contact and invite large domestic corporations and supermarkets (Go Supermarket (formerly BigC), Fivimart, Intimex, Vinmart, Mega Market, SatraMart, HaproMart and domestic consumer goods supermarkets...) to Hai Duong to sign contracts to purchase and consume Hai Duong's lychees in the 2023 crop year.

Currently, the Department of Industry and Trade is planning to connect and work with tourism and travel businesses to bring lychee products to consumption in the system of restaurants, hotels, tourist areas and spots across the country; in which, focusing on organizing the introduction, display and sale of high-quality lychee products in restaurants, hotels, cultural, sports and tourism events.

In addition, the Department has directed the Trade Promotion Center to continuously coordinate and encourage businesses, cooperatives, and people to open lychee stalls on domestic e-commerce platforms such as Lazada, Sendo, Postmart, Voso or on international platforms such as Alibaba, Amazon...; support cooperatives and individuals to sell lychee on social networks, Fanpages on Facebook, Zalo...

In order to “support” agricultural products in general and lychee in particular to reach further in the market, with its responsibilities and roles, the Ministry of Industry and Trade always considers supporting localities and enterprises in production, circulation and consumption of goods as a key task. Therefore, the Ministry has implemented many programs, coordinated with ministries, branches, localities, international organizations, industry associations and enterprises to deploy many synchronous solutions through activities connecting supply - demand, domestic consumption, and export support.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade also focuses on promoting trade promotion activities, connecting trade, exploiting advantages from new generation free trade agreements that have been signed and come into effect such as EVFTA, CPTPP... to support businesses in bringing Vietnamese agricultural products into domestic and international distribution systems.

Regarding Hai Duong province, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has closely coordinated with the People's Committee and units of the province to implement many activities, including: National program on trade promotion, National e-commerce development program to bring Hai Duong agricultural products and lychees to reputable e-commerce channels associated with traceability...

The Ministry of Industry and Trade acknowledges the efforts of the People's Committees of key lychee growing provinces and localities, including Hai Duong. With the efforts of the government, businesses and farmers of Hai Duong, the province will continue to have a successful and effective lychee growing season and many other typical agricultural products.
