In order to promote the potential strengths of mountainous areas, Yen Lap district has just handed over 330,000 purple khôi trees to households to plant with the goal of both protecting forests and creating livelihoods to help people escape poverty and improve their lives. This program belongs to Sub-Project 2 of Project 3 "Investing and supporting the development of precious medicinal plant growing areas to promote the potential strengths of mountainous areas is the content of the National Target Program on socio -economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas" for the period 2021-2025.
Mr. Nguyen Van Son in Duc Xuan area, Minh Hoa commune received over 11 thousand purple khôi trees that are being grown in his garden waiting to be planted in the spring crop.
Accordingly, Yen Lap district has 5 communes implementing this project: Minh Hoa, Dong Lac, Phuc Khanh, Dong Thinh, and Ngoc Dong, with a total area of 33 hectares and 173 participating households. To date, the households have received all the seedlings and are currently cultivating them in their gardens, awaiting planting in the Spring of 2025. After harvesting, the Gia Linh Agricultural Cooperative will purchase the dried leaves of the purple croton plant for use as medicinal herbs.
Purple khôi plant, also known as velvet khôi plant, in oriental medicine is a herbal medicine that supports the treatment of stomach diseases. It has anti-inflammatory effects, helps heal ulcers, heals scars and reduces the increase of stomach acid, reduces heartburn, burning in the epigastric region, stimulates new skin and heals the stomach and duodenum quickly.
