In the 2023 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese national team is in Group D with Indonesia, Japan, and Iraq. This is not an easy group for the "Golden Dragons". Al Jazeera has offered an assessment of the strength of the teams in this group.
In particular, the Arab newspaper gave a relatively high rating to the strength of the Vietnamese team.
Al Jazeera commented: "The Vietnamese national team aims to go far in the 2023 Asian Cup. The team's best performance in this tournament was reaching the semi-finals (2007 and 2019). However, they want to do more than that."
The team is led by the renowned coach Philippe Troussier. In the past, he has managed numerous teams including Japan, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Morocco, and Qatar. He previously led the Japanese national team to victory in the 2000 Asian Cup.
Coach Troussier's experience at the highest level is a valuable gift to the Vietnamese national team. He will pass that experience on to his players."
Al Jazeera commented on Indonesia's strength: "The Indonesian national team will participate in the Asian Cup finals for the first time in 16 years. Their last appearance was as the host nation in 2007. In the past, the team from the archipelago has never advanced beyond the group stage of the Asian Cup after four previous appearances."
Furthermore, the Indonesian national team has a rather modest position in the FIFA rankings, at 146th in the world . Coach Shin Tae Yong's experience could help Indonesia create a surprise at the 2023 Asian Cup. However, it can be said that this is a team with great ambitions but limited capabilities."
In the 2023 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese national team is in Group D along with Japan, Iraq, and Indonesia. In the upcoming tournament, Coach Troussier's team will face Japan (6:30 PM on January 14, 2024), Indonesia (9:30 PM on January 19, 2024), and Iraq (6:30 PM on January 24, 2024).
