Storm No. 10: Quang Tri has 4 people missing, injured and 8 houses have had their roofs blown off

Due to the influence of storm No. 10, Quang Tri province is experiencing heavy to very heavy rain and strong gusts of wind.

As of 5:00 p.m. on September 28, in Quang Tri province, there are 3 people missing and 1 person injured due to floods; 8 houses have had their roofs blown off.

Previously, at around 11:15 am on September 28, TT D (born in 2009, village 2 Yen Tho, Kim Phu commune (Quang Tri) and his mother were leading buffaloes to a safe area to avoid the flood, when they passed Mu Di stream in the area, they were swept away by the water and went missing.

Upon receiving the news, the local authorities mobilized functional forces and vehicles to organize the search. However, due to heavy rain and strong floodwaters from upstream, the search was very difficult. By 5 p.m. the same day, functional forces had still not found the missing victim.

Regarding the incident of two fishing boats in distress in the Cua Viet area (Quang Tri) while taking shelter from the storm, by 5 p.m. on September 28, authorities had successfully rescued nine fishermen. Authorities are currently searching for the remaining two missing victims.

In addition, the flood in Quang Tri also injured Mr. Tran Van Due (born in 1956, residing in Co Giang 1 village, Bo Trach commune) while he was securing his house. Mr. Due was diagnosed with 3 broken ribs, pleural effusion, collarbone injury, and head injury; the victim is currently receiving emergency treatment at the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital.

Two police officers from Cua Viet commune, Quang Tri province, waded into the water to rescue a resident and his vehicle that was swept away by floodwaters while passing through a flooded section.

Over the past 24 hours, Quang Tri province has experienced heavy to very heavy rain. The total rainfall from 1pm on September 27 to 1pm on September 28 is generally between 80 and 200mm. There is a risk of flash floods in small streams upstream, landslides on slopes, along rivers, and construction sites. At the same time, there is a risk of flooding in low-lying areas, along rivers and streams, and local flooding in culverts and low-lying roads.

In response to heavy rains and storm No. 10 approaching the mainland, Quang Tri province has evacuated 742 households with 2,318 people to safe areas. At the same time, it is required that units and localities deploy storm response according to the "4 on-site" principle; urgently deploy plans to evacuate people and property from vulnerable areas, at risk of landslides and flooding; and organize forces to rescue people when emergency situations occur.
