The leaders of the Department of Health inspected the digital transformation and implementation of electronic medical records in medical examination and treatment at Thanh Mien Medical Center.

Save time, optimize medical examination and treatment process

Kinh Mon Medical Center is one of the first medical facilities to deploy electronic medical records. Up to now, the unit has completely abandoned paper medical records, made payments on the electronic system, and simultaneously linked data with the social insurance agency on documents such as birth certificates, insurance leave certificates when going to see a doctor, hospital discharge papers, health examination papers, etc. Electronic medical records bring practical benefits to both medical staff and people.

Coming to Kinh Mon Medical Center for a medical examination on a day at the end of September, Mr. Vu Van Duong (residing in Nhi Chieu ward) was quite surprised when he no longer had to queue to get a number like before, but was guided by medical staff to get a registration number at the kiosk and wait his turn.

“Previously, to register for a medical examination, I had to go through many steps and instructions. Now, I just need to enter my citizen identification data at the machine at the kiosk and all the information will appear, then I can get a medical examination number. This saves time and is convenient for patients,” said Mr. Duong.

Similarly, at the Vietnam Institute of Marine Medicine, patients do not need to bring many types of documents like before. With electronic medical records, just with a QR code on a mobile phone, medical staff can immediately access the patient's entire medical examination and treatment history. Patients can also look up test information, prescriptions, doctor's instructions... from previous visits on the system without having to save many documents and medical records.

Dr. Nguyen Bao Nam, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Marine Medicine, said: The implementation of electronic medical records helps patients reduce waiting time and jostling when registering for medical examination. Patients also do not have to wait for test results, because doctors can view and return results directly on the system, thereby making timely diagnoses. This not only improves treatment efficiency, but also saves effort for both doctors and patients. In particular, all medical examination and treatment results are stored on the system, can be easily accessed and monitored annually. Systematizing data helps monitor the health status of patients more continuously and accurately, bringing more positive treatment results.

Electronic medical records are data and information digitized from the patient's actual medical records during each medical examination and treatment. The data includes personal information, disease symptoms, diagnosis, medication prescriptions, test results, X-rays and the doctor's treatment plan. The implementation of electronic medical records optimizes the medical examination and treatment process, helps save time for doctors, reduces costs for patients and improves the quality of medical services.

Innovation in management methods

According to the representative of Hai Phong Department of Health, by September 30, all 46 public health units under the department had completed the implementation of electronic medical records on the Ministry of Health's Information Portal, achieving 100% of the plan. Of which, 19 hospitals and 27 regional health centers successfully implemented.

Hospitals under ministries and branches in the city have also announced electronic medical records, including: Institute of Marine Medicine, Institute of Naval Medicine, Military Hospital 7, Logistics Department of Military Region 3, Hai Duong University of Medical Technology Hospital, Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital...

For the non-public health sector, there are 8 hospitals implementing electronic medical records including: Hai Phong International General Hospital, International Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Vinh Bao International General Hospital, Vinmec, Hoa Binh General Hospital, Hanoi - Hai Phong Eye, DND Hai Duong International Eye and Green.

To ensure the progress of electronic medical records publication as directed by the City People's Committee, the Department of Health closely monitors, urges medical units and supports in resolving difficulties during the implementation process. Problems related to finance, equipment, computers, transmission lines, IT human resources, etc. are all taken care of and promptly directed by the Health sector so as not to affect the progress. For private hospitals that have not completed the publication of electronic medical records, the Department directs specialized departments to actively support, in order to soon complete the publication on the Ministry of Health's Information Portal.

The promotion of electronic medical records in Hai Phong is an important step towards innovating management methods in the health sector, aiming to build a modern, transparent and sustainable health care system. When the entire medical examination and treatment process is digitized, people and medical staff will benefit from the convenience, speed and accuracy.

People can easily track their personal health records, while supporting the health sector to manage medical data more scientifically, safely and effectively. Centralized medical data is also an important foundation for the city to develop smart medical applications, serving the work of disease prevention and control, scientific research and planning medical policies in accordance with reality.
