In 1950, in the midst of the smoky and fiery mountains of Phu Tho, Medical Team 3 had only over 60 officers and employees, inadequate equipment, and rudimentary camps, but it excellently performed the mission of providing emergency aid and treatment to soldiers and frontline workers in the Tran Hung Dao, Hoang Hoa Tham, Quang Trung, Hoa Binh , Tay Bac campaigns and the peak was the Dien Bien Phu campaign.
Those persistent, silent and courageous contributions contributed to the overall victory of the nation. Medical Team 3 was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State.

From that foundation, Military Hospital 103 gradually developed through the stages of resistance against the US, national salvation, construction and protection of the Fatherland. In 1958, the unit was upgraded to Military Hospital 103; in 2014, it was officially named Military Hospital 103, aiming to become a high-quality treatment, training and research center of the Army and the country.
Over 75 years of construction and development, the Hospital has made its mark with many important achievements: Successfully performing the first liver transplant from a living donor in Vietnam (2004), the first heart transplant (2010), the first simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplant (2014) and the first lung transplant from a living donor in the country (2017). These achievements are vivid evidence of the courage, intelligence and pioneering spirit of generations of military doctors.
