BIDV Tuyen Quang against electronic financial transaction fraud

Việt NamViệt Nam28/05/2024

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hanh, Director of BIDV Tuyen Quang, said that scammers often impersonate bank employees, call customers with the excuse of supporting customers in checking their balances and transactions... asking customers to provide information related to customers and related to accounts, cards, balances...

BIDV Tuyen Quang and Tuyen Quang Provincial Youth Union signed a cooperation agreement on digital transformation among youth to contribute to preventing fraud and scams in electronic financial transactions.

The scammer will then notify the customer by text message and ask the customer to read the 6-digit code in the message, which is actually an OTP code to make an online payment transaction. The customer who follows the request will lose money in the account. This is not a new trick, but many customers have been scammed because they rarely interact with the bank's warning information or because they are not fully aware of the seriousness of providing information.

Another form is that the scammer transfers a small amount of money into the customer's account, then impersonates the bank to call or send a text message (displaying the bank's brand) to the customer to notify that the money transfer transaction is suspended and asks the customer to access the link to check the transaction, confirm information, unlock the money transfer order, etc.

With this trick, the subjects tricked customers into providing confidential information of electronic banking services such as login name, password, OTP. Then, they took control of the customer's account.

Fraudsters also set up websites impersonating banks to receive and support inquiries about bank products and services, in order to collect personal information, transaction history and bank accounts. In addition, there are tricks such as sending fake emails, transferring money to the wrong account, impersonating financial companies, etc.

Using fake mobile apps to scam customers, scammers create an app that looks like the original app of the banks and uploads it to the Google Play store. When customers unwittingly download and install the fake app on their mobile phones and grant the necessary permissions, the app starts sending sensitive data that allows scammers to withdraw money from the victim’s account.

In the face of the above situation, BIDV Tuyen Quang recommends that, to ensure financial safety, people and customers absolutely do not provide information: Citizen ID, account number, OTP password; be cautious when making money transfer transactions on electronic banking applications. In case of detecting fraudulent acts, immediately notify the bank or the police agency for coordination in investigation and handling.

Currently, BIDV Tuyen Quang is actively coordinating with the Department of Cyber Security and High-tech Crime Prevention, Tuyen Quang Provincial Police, provincial departments, functional agencies, network service management units... to promote propaganda about criminal tricks so that people can be vigilant and take precautions. At the same time, do not use software of unknown origin, do not participate in virtual transactions...

BIDV Tuyen Quang has signed a cooperation agreement with Tuyen Quang Provincial Youth Union on pioneering digital transformation among youth. Thereby, it will disseminate information to youth union members in the province about online fraud, especially fraud related to electronic financial transactions.

From now until the end of the year, there will be tricks: giving gifts, showing gratitude to customers... subjects leading people into groups, associations on social networks with sweet advertising, high-profit investment, business without premises... when people trust and cooperate, they will commit acts of fraud and property appropriation. Therefore, people and customers must be really vigilant.
