Previously, the People's Committee of Hue City sent a document to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism seeking opinions on the content of the plan to restore the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty's royal throne.
Essentially, the plan has been seriously researched and developed, with all the necessary content for the restoration of national treasures in accordance with regulations.
However, in order for the restoration of the Nguyen Dynasty's royal throne, a national treasure, to be carried out in a scientifically and legally sound manner, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requests the Hue City People's Committee to take note of several points.
Regarding the legal basis, the Law on Cultural Heritage dated June 18, 2001 and the Law amending and supplementing the Law on Cultural Heritage dated June 18, 2009 are replaced by the Law on Cultural Heritage dated November 23, 2024.
Regarding the purpose, it is necessary to precisely define the result of the restoration as "returning the artifact to its condition as closely as possible to the time the dossier for recognition as a national treasure was compiled in 2015".
Furthermore, it is necessary to clarify the requirement to use new techniques, technologies, and materials only appropriately and effectively. It is also necessary to assess the potential risks encountered during the restoration process and the security and safety conditions required.

The process of documenting the current status of a national treasure requires comparison and contrast with the dossier of the artifact proposed for recognition as a national treasure in 2015; relevant source materials (if any) should be carefully reviewed and evaluated for reference.
Regarding the expert and supervisory council, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposes that, in addition to the list of members, the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City should advise the People's Committee of Hue City to clearly define the tasks and powers of the Council.
As reported by Van Hoa newspaper , on the afternoon of May 24th, Ho Van Phuong Tam (42 years old), while visiting Thai Hoa Palace in the Hue Imperial Citadel, climbed over the protective fence and sat on the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty's throne. He damaged the throne, breaking the left armrest into several pieces.
In connection with this incident, several individuals and groups within the Hue Imperial City Relics Conservation Center have been disciplined, including two security guards who were dismissed. Ho Van Phuong Tam has been prosecuted by the Hue City Police.
In order to restore the national treasure, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has agreed to allow the People's Committee of Hue City to establish a council to assess the condition and propose a plan for the preservation and restoration of the Nguyen Dynasty's royal throne.
The throne of the Nguyen Dynasty was recognized as a national treasure by Decision No. 2382/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister in 2015.
