Buon Trap has more opportunities to reduce poverty

In recent years, poverty reduction policies have opened up new opportunities for many households in Trap village (Tam Giang commune), helping them change their lives and gradually escape poverty.

Ms. H. Duyn Niê is one of the poor households in Trăp village that benefited from the livelihood support program. In 2023, she received breeding cows and preferential loans from the Social Policy Bank. She has partnered with several other households to gather the cows into a large herd, making care easier. Ms. H. Duyn said: “Since receiving the breeding stock and loans, my family has found a new direction. The cows give birth regularly, and selling the calves provides us with some savings.”

Besides livelihood support, many poor households also receive housing assistance, as in the case of Mr. Y Guin Mlô. His family owned 5 acres of coffee plants, but they were all old and their income was unstable, leaving them constantly struggling financially. With nearly 90 million VND in support from Program 1719 to build a house, plus contributions of labor from neighbors and additional loan capital, he was able to construct a spacious 68 m2 house worth 200 million VND. Mr. Y Guin happily shared: “Now that we have a new house, my wife and I can focus on farming and tending to the coffee plants. The children also have a stable place to study and are no longer afraid of the rain and wind. This support is not only material but also a motivation for my family to strive for a better life.”

Y Guin's family's new house is currently under construction.

Head of Y Sieng Adrong village said that Trap village currently has 102 households with 447 people, 100% of whom are ethnic minorities; of which 71 are poor households and 4 are near-poor households. In recent times, the entire local political system has strongly participated in poverty reduction, from strengthening propaganda, mobilizing, bringing support policies to the right subjects to directly guiding people in each stage of production and accessing loan sources.

However, poverty reduction efforts in Trap village still face many challenges, as some residents still have a mentality of waiting for and relying on government support. Some households, after receiving support, fall back into poverty due to a lack of farming skills and an inability to plan for long-term production.

According to Le Ky Su, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Giang commune, poverty reduction efforts are not limited to providing livestock, crops, or preferential loans; the core issue is helping people change their production mindset. In the coming time, the commune will prioritize livelihood support linked to technical guidance and the development of model projects so that people can see the effectiveness and confidently follow suit. The goal is to ensure that policies are implemented correctly, helping people gradually change their way of thinking and doing things, and proactively rise out of poverty sustainably.
