Central provinces are making evacuation plans and urging boats and ships to avoid Typhoon Tra Mi.

In response to Typhoon Tra Mi (Typhoon No. 6), Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces have drawn up plans to evacuate residents and urged boats and ships to avoid the storm.

Accordingly, Quang Nam province will evacuate 212,000 people if the storm is strong and 396,000 people in the case of a super typhoon. Residents will be evacuated to temporary shelters in sturdy houses or to centralized evacuation centers such as government offices and schools.

Regarding the situation of vessels operating at sea, there are a total of 54 vessels with 2,300 workers. Of these, 50 vessels are in the Truong Sa archipelago area; and 4 fishing vessels with 112 workers are operating in the Hoang Sa archipelago area, which is in a dangerous zone. It is expected that these 4 vessels will return to shore around 4 PM today (October 24th).

Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, Le Van Dung, requested that local authorities and units have leaders on duty 24/7 to direct storm prevention and control efforts, strengthen inspections of "four on-the-spot" equipment, and ensure smooth communication from the province to the district and from the district to the commune to promptly receive information from the local level. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development should assess the situation to organize a ban on sea travel to ensure safety.

According to information from the Quang Ngai Provincial Border Guard Command, as of 3 PM on October 23rd, Quang Ngai still had 366 fishing vessels with over 4,100 fishermen operating in the sea areas; and 4,115 vessels with over 32,700 fishermen anchored at ports.

All ships and boats have received information about the development and movement of Typhoon No. 6. For ships and boats in the area affected by the typhoon, the Provincial Border Guard Command requests that they urgently move to safe shelters.

Given the complex developments of Typhoon No. 6, on the afternoon of October 23, the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Quang Ngai province issued a directive requesting units and localities to use communication systems to inform captains of ships and boats operating at sea about the information and developments of the typhoon so that they can proactively take preventive measures, evacuate, or avoid moving into dangerous areas.

It is especially important to note that ships and boats operating in the northern South China Sea and the Paracel Islands must not be complacent and must urgently move to safe locations.

Organize the counting of vessels operating at sea; strictly manage the departure and operation of vessels at sea. Maintain communication to promptly handle any adverse situations that may arise. Keep rescue and relief forces and equipment ready to deploy for emergency response when needed.
