With 38 aircraft berths, SAI is capable of handling 7 million passengers per year, expected to increase to 12 million by 2040. The annual air cargo volume is 10,000 tonnes per year from 2023 and 26,000 tonnes per year from 2040. In total, the number of flights that can be handled is 65,000 this year and will increase to 112,700 per year from 2040.

SAI took three years to complete, formerly known as Siem Reap International Airport and is classified as a 4E airport due to its ability to accommodate large commercial aircraft commonly used on long-haul global routes.

SAI currently accounts for the majority of international flights to Cambodia. Currently, there are 8 airlines operating at the airport, namely SAI, Air Asia, Bangkok Airways, Singapore Airlines, Cambodia Angkor Air, China Eastern, Lao Airlines, Air Busan and China Southern.

Mr. Sok Soken, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, said that the construction of the airport has helped create jobs both directly and indirectly. The Minister also advocated setting up shops selling local products and artworks at reasonable prices at the airport.
