Mustard greens fields become check-in spots in Hanoi

In the early winter days, Le Chi commune, Hanoi welcomes the blooming yellow mustard season, dyeing the alluvial land along the river with brilliant colors. The blooming mustard fields create a scene like a painting of the Northern countryside.

Canola flowers in Ly Chi are usually sown from the end of September and bloom after more than a month.

The tree is about 40-70 cm tall, with small, bright yellow flowers growing in thick clusters. When a gentle breeze blows, the entire carpet of flowers moves like silk ribbons, standing out in the open space of the Duong River bank.

Mr. Thang - a local long-time flower grower - said: "This season the weather is so bad, if we plant mustard greens and encounter heavy rain or flooding, we will suffer a lot of damage. This year, people have switched to growing short-term vegetables for safety." According to Mr. Thang, only a few households grow on a small scale or to serve traditional farming needs, so there are no longer long lines of tourists coming to take photos like before.

However, the remaining mustard fields still retain their distinctive beauty: a light yellow color spread across the misty sky, evoking the peaceful feeling of the Northern countryside. Some professional photographers share that this tranquility brings its own beauty, suitable for photo sets with a rustic, minimalist style.

In many alluvial areas along the rivers in the North, yellow mustard is grown for two main purposes: to harvest seeds for seeds and to cover the ground in winter. In recent years, thanks to images of blooming mustard fields appearing on social networks, many localities have taken advantage of the flower areas to welcome tourists to take photos, creating more income.

However, this is also a type of tree that is very dependent on the weather. Prolonged heavy rain can cause waterlogging and stunted growth; humid weather can easily cause borers and fungal diseases, making many households afraid to expand their acreage.

Canola flowers (rapeseed) not only have landscape value but are also grown by people for seeds. However, in the past 5-7 years, thanks to their outstanding colors and the spread of social networks, canola fields in the suburbs of Hanoi have become a familiar destination for young people at the end of the year.

At Le Chi, although the area is not as large as before, the yellow color of the remaining mustard beds is still enough to create an impressive flower season, beautifying the rural space and bringing a sense of peace in the last days of the year.
