OpenAI has just officially introduced GPT-5 – the latest and most intelligent and powerful large language model (LLM) today. This is the foundation for AI chatbot software, notable for its ability to respond faster, more accurately and significantly more usefully than GPT-4.
Unlike previous versions, GPT-5 will be available to free users of ChatGPT as well, instead of being limited to paid users. However, the free version will have limitations on features and number of uses.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized the superiority of GPT-5: “I tried going back to GPT-4 and it was terrible. GPT-5 is like a team of PhD experts in your pocket.”
According to Altman, GPT-5 can handle many fields well, from writing, content creation, programming to healthcare.
Michelle Pokrass, lead AI trainer at OpenAI, said GPT-5 is able to self-assess its own limits, avoid making wrong guesses, and significantly reduce the rate of “hallucinations,” or fabricated or misleading answers.
Another highlight is that GPT-5 can “program on inspiration”. When asked to create a French learning app for English-speaking users, GPT-5 immediately built two different versions with full features: flashcards, tests, progress tracking...
Users can easily tweak or extend the application without having to rewrite it from scratch.
In addition to ChatGPT, GPT-5 will also be integrated into Microsoft products such as virtual assistant Copilot, Microsoft 365 software suite...
OpenAI has been in the tech world’s spotlight since it launched ChatGPT in 2022. With the launch of GPT-5, the company expects to reach 700 million weekly ChatGPT users this month. As a result, OpenAI, despite not being listed, is now valued at around $500 billion.
