The British Ministry of Defence announced the move by the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets in a statement, according to TASS news agency this morning, June 10.
Initially, the Eurofighter Typhoons scrambled to intercept two Russian transport aircraft, an An-12 and an An-72, flying toward Kaliningrad, a Russian territory in the Baltic Sea. Later, the British fighters were tasked with intercepting two Russian Tu-22M bombers and two Su-30SM fighter jets, which were also flying over the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea.

During different phases of the mission, British fighter jets joined forces with Finnish F-18s and Swedish Gripen aircraft, as well as Portuguese and Romanian F-16 fighters.
The UK Ministry of Defence accused Russian aircrews of failing to comply with international rules "due to a lack of communication with relevant Flight Information Regions." In a statement, the Ministry of Defence also said that Russia had been actively monitoring NATO exercises in the Baltic Sea.

Earlier, on June 8, British and Swedish fighter jets scrambled to intercept a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft, along with a Su-27 fighter jet. The British Ministry of Defence stated that the Russian pilots also did not contact the relevant Flight Information Region, but remained in international airspace and flew professionally.
There is currently no information on Russia's reaction to the statement from the British Ministry of Defence. The Russian Ministry of Defence has repeatedly stated that all aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces conducting flights strictly adhere to international rules, according to TASS.
