Chevening is the UK Government ’s fully funded master’s scholarship programme. This prestigious scholarship covers the full cost of one year of master’s study at over 150 universities in the UK, while providing professional development and cultural experiences for international scholars, including those from Vietnam.

The UK Government plans to award around 20 scholarships to Vietnamese candidates in the 2026/27 academic year, to continue to support the development of the next generation of leaders. To be eligible, candidates must be Vietnamese citizens, have graduated from university with good results, have at least two years of work experience (2,800 hours), and commit to returning to Vietnam to work for at least two years after completing the program.

This year, the application process has many notable changes. Candidates will only be counted for work experience after graduating from university. The essays will keep the same topics but add additional questions, reduce the limit from 500 to 300, encourage candidates to share their practices, limit the use of artificial intelligence and focus more clearly on the UK's priority areas such as: Sustainable growth, climate change response, security - stability, and comprehensive development.

Applicants are also required to choose a course that fits within the above areas. Additionally, if applying from an ODA recipient country, applicants must reside in that country, not necessarily their nationality.

British Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Iain Frew, affirmed: "The Chevening Scholars Network in Vietnam is creating many positive changes. After studying in the UK, you will be fully equipped with the knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of the country."

Detailed information and application instructions are available on the official website www.chevening.org/apply and on the British Embassy in Vietnam's media channels.

Australia increases quota, welcomes more Vietnamese students from 2026

The Australian Government has just announced plans to increase the number of international student intakes to 295,000 by 2026 - a 9% increase from 270,000 in 2025. This is part of a strategy to promote deeper partnerships with Vietnam and the Southeast Asian region.

Under the new framework, Australian public universities will be able to apply for increased quotas if they can demonstrate engagement with the Southeast Asian region through training programs, academic partnerships, regional campuses, alumni networks and scholarships. They will also need to ensure they provide more suitable and safe accommodation for domestic and international students.

The Australian Government encourages universities to strengthen cooperation with Southeast Asia, in line with Invested - Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 to expand education, human resources and investment connections between the two sides.

Australia is currently the third most popular study abroad destination for Vietnamese students, with more than 33,000 students studying in the country.
