For many years, people and small traders in Hoi Phu ward (Gia Lai) have freely held markets at the temporary market group Lang Nhao on the sidewalk of National Highway 14.

Abandoned 9 billion dong market

It is worth mentioning that just a few hundred meters away, the Chi Lang market project, which was invested with 9 billion VND, has been almost abandoned for ten years because traders do not come to the market.

Faced with the situation of spontaneous temporary markets encroaching on sidewalks, while the newly invested, spacious market has no visitors, the investor has sent a petition for help.

Mr. Hoang Van Truong, Hoang Minh Phu - Gia Lai private enterprise, investor of Chi Lang market, said that in 2012, people set up spontaneous markets everywhere on National Highway 14, so Gia Lai province encouraged socialization of market planning and construction.

In 2014, Mr. Truong's enterprise was granted an investment certificate for the Chi Lang market project by the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee.

According to the certificate, this is a class 3 market, with a land use area of 7,665m2 and a total investment of 9 billion VND. The project items that have been built include 26 kiosks, a tent, a toilet, a garage, a fire protection system, a water supply system, a fence, lighting, etc.

Will check and handle temporary markets

To carry out the project, the company mobilized capital and borrowed money to invest in building a complete market. In the first phase of operation, the urban order force and ward police organized patrols to clear the temporary market, and small traders and people flocked to Chi Lang market to buy and sell.

But after a while, traders gradually left to set up spontaneous temporary markets along the national highway, the billion-dollar market became deserted, and businesses fell into debt. Mr. Truong suggested that the authorities need to organize inspections and disband temporary markets and flea markets so that traders and people can gather to buy and sell in the right places.

Mr. Vu Manh Dinh, Chairman of Hoi Phu Ward People's Committee, said that the ward has received the application from the enterprise and is aware of the above information. Mr. Dinh said that after completing the two-level government, the ward will soon organize patrol forces to handle the organization of temporary markets and flea markets along Highway 14 to ensure urban beauty, security and order, and bring trading activities into order.

The beautiful 15 billion VND Ia To market is deserted. Don't want to rent or pay taxes?

Similarly, in Ia Khai commune, Gia Lai, Ia To market trade center is invested in the form of socialization by Tay Nguyen Infrastructure Real Estate One Member Co., Ltd. as the investor, and will come into operation from the end of December 2024.

Ia To Market Trade Center was newly built, modern with an investment capital of 15 billion VND, with 92 kiosks, lots, and stalls for rent. Although the new market is very beautiful, located right next to Provincial Road 664, it is very deserted, only meeting in the morning with a few dozen small traders.

Mr. Tran Van Hai, Head of the Market Management Board, said the market occupancy rate is only 30% on normal days and about 40% during Tet and holiday seasons. The reason is said to be that small traders prefer to do business and hold markets right outside Provincial Road 664, where they do not have to rent a booth, do not have to pay taxes, and are easily accessible to buyers.
