As the first Vietnamese to receive the PMI Young Professional Award (USA), honoring young and talented professionals who have made important contributions to improving project management, Trieu Chau shared about his entrepreneurial journey.

I advise and sponsor some scholarships such as VietSeeds, AmCham for domestic students because I want to share my luck with other talented young people. I think living in or outside the country can contribute to the development of the homeland.

Mr. NGUYEN SI TRIEU CHAU

Where you study doesn't matter.

* After graduating from a domestic university, you chose to go abroad and achieved many remarkable successes. Tell us a little about that journey.

- I graduated from university with good results and was faced with two choices, either stay in school to continue studying to become a lecturer or join a multinational corporation.

In the end, I chose the second direction because I thought I needed to learn and practice the standards and skills that international companies aim for in order to improve myself.

Participating in extracurricular activities and community projects while still in school helps develop necessary soft skills. During my university years, I was a Youth Union officer, which helped me perfect many important skills.

Personally, I think that no matter where you study, you still have the opportunity to develop if you have the right attitude and constant effort.

Knowledge from domestic education may not be close to the standards of developed countries, but it is good enough to create a solid foundation for you.

* But studying in the country, many people think that there are few opportunities to listen to lectures by world-class professors...

- Accessing knowledge from experts and world-class universities is no longer difficult in today's technological age, especially when there is no shortage of online courses.

The learning environment is important but not the deciding factor. What matters is whether you have clear goals and enough effort to overcome challenges.

I myself grew up in a Vietnamese educational environment but was still trusted to be invited to train on project management for leading corporations such as Samsung, Coca Cola, Suntory Pepsico, Lazada...

Not to mention project progress management consulting for a project with a budget of more than 100 million USD in the 2014 - 2015 period in Singapore and the Philippines.

Life management is also a skill.

* How does the "storm" of artificial intelligence (AI) affect your project management field?

- The AI era has not "submerged" but actually opened a new chapter for the project management industry, bringing significant improvements in efficiency and quality of work.

At Atoha, we actively apply AI to our project management processes, from planning to execution and monitoring.

For example, Atoha is using AI technology to analyze project data, helping to predict risks and optimize schedules based on reliable input data files.

AI is also now being used to improve team workflows through smart collaboration tools. Actually, AI is not scary, the concern is whether we can adapt and take advantage of it in time.

* From project management, what is related to "project management" in life that you can share with young people?

- Managing your life or youth project is not just about your career, it is about how you shape your future. Besides professional knowledge, I think there are some important factors.

First of all, define a clear goal, every big project starts with a specific goal. Determine what you really want to achieve in the next 10, 20 years and make that goal clear, controllable.

Make a detailed plan Once you have identified your goals, make a detailed plan to achieve them. This includes setting specific steps, resources needed, time frames, potential risks, and solutions.

Next, break down your goals into smaller, more manageable goals that can feel overwhelming. Breaking them down into smaller, more manageable goals can help create a sense of accomplishment and keep you motivated.

Finally, it is important to track and evaluate progress. You can use technology tools or apps to track your progress. This gives us a clear understanding of what has been achieved and what needs improvement.

From remote student to international expert

Born and raised in the countryside of Cu Bi (Ba Ria - Vung Tau), which is considered a remote area, Nguyen Si Trieu Chau was admitted to the specialized physics class of the Gifted High School (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

He graduated in the top 1% of talented engineers in the mechanical engineering department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam National University), became an expert at a foreign corporation before officially starting his own company with Atoha Project Management Institute in 2013.

In 2020, Trieu Chau was recognized as "Best of Best" by PMI (Project Management Institute of America), becoming one of nine individuals in the world to receive the professional individual award from PMI.

He is currently invited to be a judge in many prestigious international competitions in the field of project management.

Sharing about Trieu Chau, Dr. Nguyen Minh Nghi - lecturer at Concordia University (Canada) - briefly said: "He is one of the leading project management trainers in Vietnam".
