The knowledge bus and the journey to spread reading culture

With their convenience, the Provincial Library's mobile library buses are not only a mobile bookstore that brings books to readers, but also opens up a colorful space of knowledge, with many creative and interesting experiences. In the journey of connecting culture and education, the mobile library buses contribute to spreading the reading culture in the community, cultivating a generation that loves knowledge, loves to read, and loves to learn.

At Nam Cuong Primary School, Nam Cuong Ward, in mid-October 2025, the mobile library vehicle of the Provincial Library, Facility 1, brought books and newspapers to serve teachers and students of the school.

After being introduced to books and equipment in the bus by the librarian and guided to choose age-appropriate materials, the students chose their favorite newspapers and books.

Although Nam Cuong Primary School has a library, the way the program is organized and the mobile library vehicle is equipped with many types of books and newspapers has created novelty, interest, and enthusiasm for reading among students.

Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc - a student at Nam Cuong Primary School shared: "The mobile library brings books to school, my friends and I are very happy because we get to read many new, interesting and useful books. I hope the library comes to school many times so we can read books and relax after school hours."

Ms. Nguyen Kim Tuyen - Provincial Library staff said: "The excitement, curiosity and joy of students at the schools when the mobile library van arrives makes us feel that the trips are very meaningful. On each journey of the knowledge van, we always try to inspire the love of books, guide how to read books effectively and interact with students through useful activities. Each activity of the mobile library van is not just a simple extracurricular activity, but also a journey to connect and spread the love of books to students."

The mobile library model of the Provincial Library, Facility 1, was funded by the Val De Marne Provincial Council of the French Republic. The mobile library model, managed by the Provincial Library, began to be implemented in early 2008.

In addition, in 2016, the mobile multimedia library vehicle named "Light of Knowledge" is a library model deployed by the Department of Libraries, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism with sponsorship from Vingroup Corporation, directly from the "Thien Tam" Fund, which equipped the vehicle, books, and computers for the Provincial Library, Facility 2.

Over the past 10 years, the image of a mobile library vehicle going to schools in the province to serve readers who are teachers, students, and the general public has become familiar.

Unlike a regular library that serves readers at a fixed location, a mobile vehicle can carry many books and newspapers to wherever readers need them.

The mobile library is equipped with a computer connected to a LAN network, a projector and a specialized shelf system that can hold 3,000 - 4,000 books and many other devices including generators, engines, lighting systems... very convenient for traveling to serve readers in remote, mountainous and isolated communes in the province.

The mobile library vehicle is equipped with books and stories of all kinds, arranged according to political , social, legal, scientific - technical, agricultural, medical, literary, children's topics; electronic documents; bibliographic documents... with the method of both on-site service and coordination with facilities for collective lending, meeting the needs of reading, searching for information, serving the study, production, living and entertainment of students and people.

In addition, the mobile library also brings students a book stall displayed right in the school yard; organizes activities to encourage students to read books by themselves through question-and-answer games, experiential activities with their favorite books; at the same time, promotes propaganda about the role of self-study and lifelong learning associated with proactive mastery of knowledge and technology...

Four times a month, the mobile library van goes to serve residential areas and schools; each time it travels, the van serves 4-5 locations.

In order to promote and serve the needs of readers, the Provincial Library continuously changes the books and newspapers on the bus to suit each location and target audience. Thanks to that, each mobile bus trip to any place receives the response and support of the people.

Over the past time, the mobile library has served nearly 650,000 readers, bringing more than 1.2 million books and newspapers to the facility.

In addition to serving the people and schools in the communes on a monthly basis, the mobile library also actively participates in serving political and social activities taking place in the province; organizes and serves festivals, to strongly spread the reading culture in the community.

In the coming time, the Provincial Library will continue to deploy mobile library vehicles to localities and schools, aiming to improve people's cultural and spiritual enjoyment, create conditions for people to access many good books and develop reading culture in the community.
