CLIP: Indian Navy warships arrive in Da Nang

The warships led by Rear Admiral Susheel Menon, Commander of the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet, docked at Tien Sa Port, Da Nang this morning.

The visit aims to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The flotilla, comprising destroyer INS Delhi, anti-submarine frigate INS Kiltan and tanker INS Shakti, was led by Rear Admiral Susheel Menon, Commander, Eastern Fleet, Indian Navy.

Attending the ship welcoming ceremony were representatives of the leaders of Naval Region 3, Da Nang City People's Committee, Military Region 5, City Military Command, City Border Guard Command, Foreign Affairs Department ( Ministry of National Defense ), Military Security Protection Department, Coast Guard Region 2.

During the visit, from July 24 to 27, the group of officers and ship commanders paid courtesy visits to the leaders of Da Nang City People's Committee, Military Region 5, and Naval Region 3; welcomed Vietnamese delegations to visit the ship; played volleyball with officers and soldiers of Naval Region 3; and visited local culture.

The visit of the Indian Navy group contributes to strengthening bilateral defense cooperation, especially as the two countries are looking towards the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (2016–2026).

Over the years, India has regularly sent naval ships to pay courtesy visits to Da Nang City. The most recent visit was by two Indian naval ships, INS Delhi and INS Satpura, to pay courtesy visits to Da Nang City in May 2023.

INS Delhi is a multi-purpose destroyer of the Delhi class designed and built by India, 163m long, displacement of about 6,700 tons, maximum speed of 30 nautical miles/hour.

The ship is equipped with 100mm naval guns, anti-aircraft missiles, anti-submarine torpedoes, supersonic cruise missiles and is capable of carrying two anti-submarine helicopters. The INS Kiltan is an anti-submarine frigate, 109m long, with a displacement of 3,500 tons, and a maximum speed of 25 nautical miles/hour.

The main equipment includes 76mm naval guns, anti-aircraft guns, torpedo tubes, rocket launchers and a helicopter landing deck. The INS Shakti is a large logistics ship, 175m long, capable of carrying more than 15,000 tons of fuel and cargo. The ship is equipped with a modern sea refueling system, defense guns, warning systems and a helicopter landing deck.

A group of Indian officers and ship commanders will carry out many programs in Da Nang from now until July 27.
