To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 – December 22, 2024), and to educate about the patriotic traditions, self-reliance, and aspirations for peace of the nation, affirming the faith and expressing the perspective of the younger generation through the lens of technology, a social project simulating the fighting journey and growth of the Vietnam People's Army has been launched using virtual reality technology.

Virtual reality technology has somewhat stirred up national pride.

Speaking with VietnamPlus, Mr. Nguyen Manh Tung, founder of the YooLife digital platform, said that the entire glorious historical journey of the nation is fully recreated, highlighting key milestones, through a system of 'virtual museums.'

When accessing the application on personal devices such as smartphones or laptops, the project will help users travel back in time to the early, challenging yet proud days when the Vietnam Propaganda and Liberation Army – the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Army – was officially established.

From there, the historical journey is vividly recreated, taking viewers through the heroic years of resistance against French colonialism to the 21 years of tenacious struggle in the resistance war against American imperialism,...

A special highlight of the project is the combination of history, culture, and modern technology. Mr. Nguyen Manh Tung shared: “We use VR360 technology to recreate most of the landmarks associated with the history and development of the Vietnam People's Army in digital space. Besides vivid images, each project includes explanations of historical campaigns. This is a very effective approach to learning history and culture, instead of just through books.”

With a library of over 3,000 images, viewers can not only admire them but also experience the feeling of actually standing at historical sites and landmarks through VR360 technology that provides a panoramic view. Users will directly interact and actively explore and search for information.

Every frame, every camera angle offers a journey of discovery, helping to awaken curiosity and pride in the cultural and historical values of the nation.

Through visual images and videos, with narrated assistants and scientifically presented documents, users will have an enjoyable experience and easily grasp information about famous events with a strong historical significance.

Lieutenant Colonel, Dr. Tran Huu Huy – Institute of Military History, General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, who participated as a professional advisor for the project, believes that military history, in addition to collection, storage, and preservation, should be widely shared with the general public, because, according to him, sharing is the most sustainable way to preserve it.

"This project, which recreates the journey of building, fighting, and maturing of the heroic Vietnam People's Army, should not be limited to the 80th anniversary of the Army's founding, but should be an important source of material for long-term research and exploitation due to the value it brings," emphasized Lieutenant Colonel, Dr. Tran Huu Huy.

According to the project developer, over the course of six months, the team traveled to various parts of the country to document and recreate historical landmarks associated with the development of the Vietnam People's Army, from the Tran Hung Dao National Special Historical Site (Nguyen Binh, Cao Bang), the Dinh Hoa Safe Zone, the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield Historical Site, the Quang Tri Citadel, to Phu Van Lau in Hue and the Cu Chi Tunnels in Ho Chi Minh City. It can be said that this is the most comprehensive and visually impressive collection of historical sites ever undertaken in Vietnam.

With the support of modern technology and innovative approaches, the project simulating the journey of combat and growth of the Vietnam People's Army using virtual reality technology has successfully spread historical values to the younger generation and serves as a meaningful bridge from the past to the present.

Bringing history and culture closer to the public through technology.

The project simulating the combat journey and growth of the Vietnam People's Army is not the first project that Mr. Nguyen Manh Tung's team has developed.

With the development of virtual reality (VR) technology, hundreds of historical sites and scenic spots are recreated almost exactly as they were in reality.

Users taking the VR360 tour not only see the space but also view videos and images of artifacts, and read and understand more valuable historical information.

Sharing his vision for the project, Mr. Nguyen Manh Tung said that he has long desired to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the nation, while also honoring history and promoting the development of art and tourism in Vietnam. Mr. Tung also recognized that in recent years, VR360 technology has become a hot trend with practical applications in daily life, so he boldly decided to develop the project, combining the two.

“Technology platforms and social networks often focus on personal connections, but we chose a different path, building tools to spread the culture of Vietnam, of our nation, to everyone. From there, we not only convey humane messages about traditional beauty but also spread Vietnamese identity and stimulate tourism,” Mr. Nguyen Manh Tung shared with reporters.

The project team not only implemented hundreds of virtualization projects such as the VR360 tour of the Vietnam Military History Museum, the Creative Design Festival space, the Thai Hoa Palace (Hue Imperial Citadel), the Independence Palace, etc., but also collaborated with thousands of domestic and international organizations to upload virtual spaces from various fields such as education, culture, tourism, F&B, and real estate on this platform. The exhibition introduces to the public 200 paintings, graphic works, and sculptures by nearly 200 artists from all over the country. This is the first exhibition at the Museum's new facility.

Sharing his vision for the future, Mr. Nguyen Manh Tung also stated that the project's ultimate goal is to become a platform for connecting, sharing, and utilizing data related to culture, history, and art, in order to introduce and promote national spirit to a wider global audience.

"We are conveying our desire to break down geographical barriers and connect spaces to affirm the country's position in applying virtual reality technology to heritage preservation."

This virtualization project is not only a groundbreaking advancement in technology but also a bridge that helps all generations, from young people to overseas Vietnamese, to better appreciate history and national spirit through flat screens.

The project aims not only to preserve historical and cultural values but also to promote these heritage sites, showcasing the beauty of Vietnamese history and culture to the world, and affirming the country's position in applying virtual reality technology to heritage preservation.
