On the morning of December 2, at the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association, Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper launched the second Ho Chi Minh City - New Colors photo contest with the theme New Spring Colors - New Beliefs .
This year’s contest has a special meaning as Ho Chi Minh City expands its geographical space, vision, culture, and the harmony between urban and rural areas. From there, it promotes the image of a new Ho Chi Minh City to people across the country and internationally, contributing to promoting tourism, economy , sustainable development, and enhancing its position.
HCMC - New Colors is open to all Vietnamese citizens from 15 years old. Each author can submit up to 10 photos, including single photos or photo sets (5 - 8 photos).
Contest photos must be taken from now until March 31, 2026, and have not been entered into any other contest. Contest photos must be original, without AI intervention or retaken.
Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper Nguyen Thai Binh , Head of the Organizing Committee, said that the content of the photo contest revolves around three themes: spring colors (fresh moments of Ho Chi Minh City people during Tet, joy, portraits, labor, the typical optimistic beauty of the people); urban spring (spring beauty from architectural works, urban landscapes, festivals, flower markets, etc.); city sentiment (humane images, sharing, solidarity in daily life, etc.).

Journalist Huynh Truong Giang said that 30-40% of the authors of the first season of the photo contest submitted photos taken with mobile phones. The judging criteria were based on ideas, creativity (30%), content conveying the message (40%) and technique (30%).
Photographer Quy Coc Tu emphasized that emotional factors are very important, contestants need to "hunt" for valuable moments that have a high chance of winning prizes.
Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association Doan Hoai Trung said there is software that can determine the date and time the photo was taken and whether it has been edited or not. He emphasized the authenticity of the photo expressed through color. Mr. Hoai Trung suggested that there be an additional award for authors who take photos with mobile phones.
Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Ngoc Hoi said that social networks have great influence, so the contest images should be posted on platforms to spread the image of Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Hoi suggested adding an award voted by the audience, creating a new color for the contest.
Actor Lien Binh Phat continues to take on the role of image ambassador of the contest, contributing to spreading the beautiful image of Ho Chi Minh City to the community. He said: "Beautiful images will touch the emotions and leave a mark in the hearts of viewers."

The jury includes photographer Ngo Tran Hai An (Quy Coc Tu), photographer Nguyen Tan Tuan, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association Doan Hoai Trung, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper Nguyen Thai Binh (Head of the Organizing Committee), journalist Huynh Truong Giang and two honorary judges: Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Ngoc Hoi and Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu.
The organizers plan to award 15 prizes, including the special prize worth 50 million VND.
The Organizing Committee accepts entries until 24:00 on March 31, 2026.
The exhibition and awards ceremony will take place on April 30, 2026.
