Seeing smoke and flames engulfing a house in District 12 ( Ho Chi Minh City), residents joined forces to break through the iron fence on the first floor to rescue three family members trapped inside. The incident occurred on the morning of July 4th.
Around 6 a.m., smoke and flames erupted on the ground floor of a two-story house on TA16 Street, Thoi An Ward, District 12. At that time, Mr. Nguyen Phi Hung (42 years old), his wife, and their 3-year-old daughter were sleeping in a room on the first floor.
Many local residents used fire extinguishers to put out the fire, but without success because the door was locked from the inside, preventing them from accessing the building.
A few minutes later, the fire spread to the furniture and two motorbikes, erupting fiercely and engulfing the first floor, filling the air with thick black smoke. Three people inside ran to the balcony screaming for help. Neighbors climbed onto the corrugated iron roof, used hammers to lock the latches, and pulled the iron railing to create a gap for the victims to escape, still covered in black smoke.
Two motorbikes and many belongings on the first floor were destroyed in the fire. |
"The homeowners said they were sleeping in a closed room so they didn't know when the fire broke out," said Nam, one of the rescuers.
According to Mr. Cung Quang Ha, Chairman of the Thoi An Ward People's Committee, the three victims were taken to District 12 Hospital, 4 km from the scene, for medical care and their health is stable. The initial cause was an electrical short circuit in a household appliance.
