Speaking on the One Decision podcast, which he co-hosts with Sir Richard Dearlove, former head of the British intelligence agency MI6, Leon Panetta said: “This is particularly worrying because of what we’ve discovered: the intelligence community has been providing information to the Secret Service that there are assassination threats…”.

The former CIA director stressed: "And if that's true and they still can't establish a security perimeter, I mean, somehow this event falls outside the security perimeter, that's insane," the former CIA chief said.
Amid calls for her resignation for failing to ensure Trump's security, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle also had to address questions about how 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to climb onto the roof and open fire, despite numerous witnesses and security personnel seeing him at Trump's campaign rally.
Speaking to ABC on Monday, Cheatle said: “In this particular case, the Secret Service is responsible for the interior perimeter and then we seek support from our local partners for the exterior perimeter. There are local police officers in that building – there are local police officers in the area who are responsible for the exterior perimeter of the building.”
But local authorities questioned Cheatle's statement on Wednesday, with the Washington Post reporting that the Secret Service had been informed that local police lacked the resources to monitor the building in question.
