Speaking on the One Decision podcast, which he co-hosts with Sir Richard Dearlove, former head of the British intelligence agency MI6, Leon Panetta said: “This is particularly worrying because of what we found: the intelligence community had provided information to the Secret Service that there were assassination threats…”

“And if that's true and they still can't establish a security perimeter, I mean, somehow this is outside the security perimeter of the event, that's crazy,” the former CIA chief stressed.
Amid calls for her resignation for failing to ensure Mr. Trump's security, US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle also had to address questions about how the 20-year-old gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was able to climb onto the roof and open fire, despite multiple witnesses and security personnel seeing him at Mr. Trump's campaign site.
“In this particular case, the Secret Service was responsible for the inner perimeter and then we sought assistance from our local partners for the outer perimeter. There were local police in that building – there were local police in the area that were responsible for the outer perimeter of the building,” Ms Cheatle told ABC television on Monday.
But local authorities questioned Ms. Cheatle’s remarks on Wednesday, with the Washington Post reporting that the Secret Service had been told that local police did not have enough resources to monitor the building involved.
