Invested 600,000 billion VND for Mekong Delta Expressway, the highest in the country

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that since the beginning of his term, about 600,000 billion VND has been invested in highways in the Mekong Delta, the highest among the six regions of the country.

On the afternoon of October 19, during a working trip to Can Tho city, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a conference on the implementation of expressway projects in the Mekong Delta region.

According to the report of the Ministry of Construction , currently in the Mekong Delta region, the ministry and localities are implementing 11 expressway projects with a total length of 434.7km.

Regarding site clearance, the projects have been basically completed. Currently, there is only the problem of site clearance for traffic supervision and operation at the Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau projects passing through the provinces and cities of Can Tho, An Giang, Ca Mau and some high-voltage power lines passing through Dong Thap province and Can Tho city have not been relocated.

Regarding construction materials, the current total demand for sand for embankment is 54.2 million ^m3 , localities have licensed to exploit 63.31 million ^m3 , however, the permitted exploitation capacity has not met the progress of project implementation.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that more than 4 years ago (May 2021), he and the secretaries and chairmen of the provincial People's Committees met to discuss the political determination to build a highway system in the Mekong Delta, at that time there was not even a highway planning.

According to the Prime Minister, the process of both construction and planning, as of the beginning of this year, there were about 1,200km of highways, recently continued to add more than 100km of Ca Mau - Dat Mui and Dat Mui - Hon Khoai highways, bringing the total to more than 1,300km of highways in the Mekong Delta.

Roughly calculated investment in developing the Mekong Delta's traffic system up to now, including the Ca Mau - Dat Mui and Dat Mui - Hon Khoai expressways, is nearly 600,000 billion VND.

"At the beginning of the term, we did not know where the money would come from, but now we have allocated about 600,000 billion VND. That shows the Party and State's concern for the Mekong Delta, the spirit of saying what we do, committing to doing what we do, and doing what we do effectively.

The Party and State have paid attention and the people have supported the site clearance. We request that the Party Committee and the government focus on leading and directing project management boards and encouraging contractors to quickly implement projects that have been and are being implemented quickly, promptly, and according to the directed schedule.

I reiterate that the Party and State pay great attention and allocate the highest strategic infrastructure investment for the Mekong Delta in this term among the six regions of the country.

"Comrades are proud to receive the attention of the Party and State, but must also demonstrate a sense of responsibility and use this capital effectively," the Prime Minister reminded leaders of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region attending the meeting.
