Laos' Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone Fights Online Fraud

The Bokeo Provincial Economic Zone Management Board of Laos stated that all business activities within the Golden Triangle Economic Zone must strictly comply with Lao law and must be licensed by the Lao authorities.

On August 24th, Laophattana News quoted a notice from the Bokeo Special Economic Zone Management Board in Laos, stating that individuals and legal entities in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone are required to immediately cease all online fraud activities. Furthermore, all business activities in the zone must strictly comply with Lao law and can only operate with the permission of the local authorities.

The notice also emphasized that salaries, wages, dividends, and other benefits for employees or workers must be paid in full and on time as committed. Furthermore, the seizure of personal documents such as passports, national identity cards, temporary residence permits, and work permits is strictly prohibited.

Starting August 26th, Laos will conduct strict inspections, and those who continue to engage in online fraud or fail to comply with the notice will be prosecuted under Lao law. This is an important step in preventing fraudulent activities and protecting workers in this Special Economic Zone.

Notably, on August 12th, Laos successfully dismantled an online fraud ring in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, arresting a total of 771 individuals from 15 different countries. This action significantly contributed to cleaning up the business environment and ensuring security for the business community in the region.

In this context, combating online fraud in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone is becoming a top priority, while also reaffirming the Lao government's commitment to building a healthy and transparent business environment.
