Ensuring safety and preventing school violence

On December 4, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province announced that it had issued Document No. 7426/UBND-VX requesting competent authorities to urgently review, clarify and implement measures to prevent school violence after the incident of a fight between 7th grade students at Ton Duc Thang Secondary School, Thong Nhat Ward.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Thong Nhat Ward coordinated with the school and related units to evaluate the entire development of the incident, consider responsibility, and strictly discipline the relevant collectives and individuals; report the results before December 15, 2025. The Education sector strengthened education on ethics, lifestyle, and behavioral skills for students; developed and implemented codes of conduct in schools and strictly handled violations.

The sector continues to enhance the role of teachers and administrators in student management; proactively grasp psychology, detect conflicts early to have timely intervention measures. Along with that, encourage students to participate in preventing and reporting school violence; strengthen coordination between schools, parents, police agencies and local authorities in prevention work.

The provincial police closely coordinate with localities and schools in verifying the incident and handling it according to regulations if school violence occurs.

Previously, the People's Committee of Thong Nhat Ward issued report No. 468/BC-UBND on the incident that occurred on the afternoon of November 28 during the physical education class of class 7/1, Ton Duc Thang Secondary School. According to the report, two students had a conflict over an art drawing assignment, leading to a fight. A video of the incident circulating on social media recorded a student being beaten by a friend while many surrounding students stood by and watched but did not intervene.

Immediately after the incident, the ward People's Committee, authorities, and the school worked with the parents and students involved and agreed on measures to correct the situation, remind and educate students in the class. The school strengthened management and committed to ensuring student safety in the future.

Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee said it will continue to monitor and direct relevant agencies to deploy appropriate solutions to ensure school safety and effectively prevent school violence in the area.
