EnglishWorks! is a program managed, coordinated, and implemented by the SEAMEO RETRAC Center with the participation of 10 partner institutions, including universities and colleges nationwide. According to Dr. Ho Thanh My Phuong, Director of the SEAMEO RETRAC Center, this is an important educational project that contributes to the development of high-quality human resources in Vietnam.
Specifically, the program targets disadvantaged young people who are currently studying or have studied engineering, are employed or unemployed; have aspirations for academic excellence, and show potential to contribute to the socio -economic development of their local area. Partner organizations are responsible for recruitment and ensuring certain criteria are met. Successful applicants will receive full tuition and learning materials sponsorship.
Key lecturers from universities and colleges attended the training workshop following the program.
According to Dr. Phuong, the project aims to improve essential English skills for young people seeking employment or starting businesses, with a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education. In addition, EnglishWorks! also focuses on training and enhancing leadership skills and critical thinking for participants.
"EnglishWorks! is an educational cooperation program that contributes to enhancing the capacity of young workers, especially in the fields of engineering, science, and semiconductor technology, in the context of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, and high technology," Ms. Phuong said, adding that each school does not recruit more than 30 students per class and each class is implemented from 6 months to 1 year depending on the institution.
