VnExpressVnExpress23/01/2024

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction proposed building 6 more parks with a total area of nearly 800 hectares in Thu Duc City, Cu Chi District, District 12, Binh Tan, and Binh Thanh.

The content was stated by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction in a report sent to the City People's Committee on the development of parks and public trees in the area. The 6 proposed parks are large-scale, from public land or vacant land, located in many localities.

The largest of these is Saigon Safari Park in Cu Chi District, covering 485 hectares, about 50 km from the city center. The Saigon Safari Park project is located in An Nhon Tay and Phu My Hung communes, part of the Cu Chi historical and cultural tourism cluster with functional areas for releasing semi-wild animals; open animal exhibition (open cage system and landscape, displaying typical animals of continents around the world, night zoo displaying animals that live at night).

The project has compensated 97%, but the remaining amount has not been completely resolved; the situation of re-encroachment is complicated, making people angry.

Next is the 128-hectare ecological park in Thu Duc City, part of the Thu Thiem New Urban Area. Its main function is to protect the environment, drain surface water, combine rest, entertainment, and preserve the natural ecosystem. Most of the area is a flooded ecological area, with only 3 plots of land planned to build facilities for sightseeing, tourism, and a botanical research area.

Thu Thiem Square Park in Thu Duc City is 20 hectares wide. The entire area is public land. Currently, the locality has inaugurated the Saigon River bank park from Ba Son Bridge to the Saigon River tunnel with many items, such as sunflower fields, community activity area, wharf, floating aquatic raft chain, stone park, ecological park...

Go Cat Park in Binh Tan District is 13 hectares wide. This was originally a landfill site that has been inactive for more than 10 years. At recent conferences, many units proposed to relocate and treat this place to make way for an ecological urban area.

Thanh Xuan Green Park in District 12 is 150 hectares wide, located in Thanh Xuan and Thoi An wards. Due to its large area, this park will be planned as a multi-functional park, serving both sightseeing, activities, and exploiting various types of entertainment and recreation (non-residential), while also regulating water and storing clean water for the entire area.

Finally, the Green Park belongs to the green park - sports area of ward 12, Binh Thanh district, 3.8 hectares wide.

Ho Chi Minh City has about 400 parks, including public parks and parks in residential areas with more than 235,000 trees. In particular, inner-city districts have larger park areas than suburban areas.

The total land area planned for green parks in the city is more than 11,400 hectares, equivalent to 7 square meters per person, but in reality it is very low, only about 500 hectares. With a permanent population of about 10 million people in the city, the above ratio only reaches an average of 0.55 square meters per person.

In the 2020-2025 period, the city aims to increase public park land by 150 hectares, equivalent to 0.65 square meters per person. To achieve this target, Ho Chi Minh City needs to implement at least 54 projects. The total estimated investment cost is more than VND9,000 billion. However, to date, only 8 projects have been completed and submitted for investment proposals.
