The trend shows a clear divergence, with some "hot" majors recording soaring scores, while many others have relatively low cutoff scores, expanding opportunities for candidates to be admitted.
Artificial intelligence and integrated circuit design benchmarks surge.
According to Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Vice Rector of the University of Information Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), as of noon on August 20th, the expected cut-off scores for regular undergraduate programs at the university this year range from 24 to over 29.5 points, depending on the major.
"We anticipate a significant differentiation in the cutoff scores for our university this year. Leading majors like artificial intelligence and integrated circuit design are expected to see a sharp increase in scores compared to last year. Meanwhile, many other majors are experiencing a decrease in scores, aligning with the general trend and opening up more opportunities for candidates," Mr. Khang commented.
This year, the University of Information Technology will not convert each candidate's admission score to a single common scale.
Instead of converting each candidate's score to a common scale, the school applies the percentile table published by the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and the Ministry of Education and Training , based on the conversion framework for admission scores between different admission methods.
This includes comparing the score distribution of the 2025 high school graduation exam combinations, high school transcript scores, along with the academic results of students in previous years and the registration situation of equivalent candidates according to quantiles and the level of fulfillment of the entrance requirements of each major.
University of Natural Sciences : Computer Science continues to lead the way.
Representatives from the University of Science (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) stated that this year the number of applications to the university has doubled compared to 2024, reaching 60,849 applications, causing the expected cut-off scores for many majors to increase accordingly.
The university will announce the cutoff scores for each subject combination and admission method, after adding regional and preferential treatment points. The A00 combination (mathematics - physics - chemistry) will be used as the base combination to convert scores for other combinations to the same percentile.
Currently, the advanced computer science program continues to have the highest admission score at the university, with an expected cutoff score of over 29 points based on the A00 subject combination.
The Polytechnic University has some majors that have seen an increase in number, while others have seen a decrease.
Meanwhile, Associate Professor Bui Hoai Thang - Head of the Training Department of the University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) - said: "The virtual filtering process is still quite tense as of August 20th, and the university has not yet finalized the cutoff scores. After several rounds of virtual filtering over the past few days, the expected cutoff scores for some majors have increased, while others have decreased compared to last year's scores."
The 2025 admission score for the Polytechnic University includes academic performance points plus priority points, based on a 100-point scale and converted using a different formula.
The Polytechnic University has not published any information regarding the conversion of admission scores. Regarding this, Mr. Thang stated: "The university uses a comprehensive admissions method, therefore it does not publish conversion information."
According to the new regulations announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, universities must enter the admission scores and selection results into the system before 5 PM on August 22nd, after the completion of 10 rounds of nationwide virtual filtering (extended by two days compared to the previous regulations). The results of the first round of admissions will be announced according to the general schedule.
The Ministry also requested that training institutions not announce admission scores before the final virtual filtering round on the common system (i.e., 12:30 PM on August 22).
