The trend of differentiation is clear, when some "hot" majors record skyrocketing scores, while many other majors have benchmark scores that are not too high, expanding the admission opportunities for candidates.

AI, IC Design Benchmarks Soar

According to Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang - Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), by noon on August 20, the standard score for regular university entrance this year is expected to range from 24 to more than 29.5 points depending on the major.

"Our school's benchmark scores this year are expected to be very differentiated. Key majors such as artificial intelligence and microchip design have seen a sharp increase in scores compared to last year. Meanwhile, many other majors have seen their scores decrease, in line with the general trend and opening up more opportunities for candidates," said Mr. Khang.

This year, the University of Information Technology does not convert the admission scores of each candidate to a common scale.

Instead of converting each candidate's score to a common scale, the school applies the percentile table announced by Ho Chi Minh City National University and the Ministry of Education and Training , based on the conversion framework for admission scores between admission methods.

This includes comparing the score distribution of the 2025 high school graduation exam combinations, high school transcript scores, along with the academic results of students in previous years and the registration status of equivalent candidates according to percentile and the level of meeting the entry requirements of each major.

University of Natural Sciences : Computer Science continues to lead

A representative of the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) said that this year the number of applications to the school doubled compared to 2024, up to 60,849 applications, causing the expected benchmark scores of many majors to increase accordingly.

The school will announce the benchmark scores for each subject group and admission method, after adding regional and subject priority points. Group A00 (math - physics - chemistry) is taken as the base group to convert the scores of other groups to the same percentile.

Up to now, the advanced computer science program continues to be the major with the highest standard score in the school, with an expected standard score of over 29 points according to the A00 combination.

Polytechnic University has increasing and decreasing majors.

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Thang - Head of Training Department of University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - said: "The virtual filtering situation is still quite tense as of August 20, the school has not yet finalized the standard score. The results after the virtual filtering rounds in the past few days, the expected standard score of the school has increased for some majors and decreased for others compared to last year's score.

The 2025 admission score of the University of Science and Technology includes academic score plus priority points, on a 100-point scale and converted according to a different formula.

The Polytechnic University has not announced any information about the conversion of admission scores. Regarding this, Mr. Thang said: "The school uses a comprehensive admission method so it does not announce conversion information."

According to the new regulations just announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, before 5:00 p.m. on August 22, universities will enter the admission scores and admission results into the system, after completing 10 virtual screening rounds nationwide (extended by two days compared to previous regulations). Announce the first round of admission results according to the general schedule.

The Ministry also requested that training institutions not announce admission scores before the final virtual filtering on the common system (ie 12:30 p.m. on August 22).
