Shipyard kitchen shutdown leaves 127 hospitalized

The Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ) announced that it has received reports of a suspected food poisoning incident at the Song Cam Shipyard in Hai Phong city, resulting in 127 people being hospitalized for treatment.

Accordingly, the Food Safety Department requested the Hai Phong Department of Health to urgently direct hospitals with patients being treated to focus resources on actively treating the patients.

At the same time, immediately suspend the operation of the communal kitchen at the Song Cam Shipyard, conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the poisoning in accordance with regulations, trace the origin of the food, and collect food and biological samples for testing to determine the cause.

The Ministry of Health requests that any violations of food safety regulations be detected and strictly dealt with, and that the results be made public to provide timely warnings to the community.

Strengthen communication and guidance for collective kitchens and food service establishments to ensure hygiene and food safety conditions; disseminate and educate the public on food safety knowledge and measures to prevent food poisoning.

The Food Safety Department also requested the Hai Phong Department of Health to report the implementation results to the Food Safety Department as required.

According to the People's Committee of Hai Phong city, after the lunch on June 27 of Song Cam Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company in An Hong commune, An Duong district, many workers showed symptoms of rashes, red faces, no vomiting, no diarrhea.

The total meal is 795, with dishes including: braised chicken, peanuts in oil, braised sea fish, grilled pork with lolot leaves, boiled squash, spinach soup, rice, and watermelon for dessert. These dishes are divided into two menus, including 400 servings with the menu including: braised mackerel, grilled pork with lolot leaves, squash, spinach soup, rice, and watermelon.

The remaining meals, consisting of braised chicken, peanuts, zucchini, water spinach soup, and watermelon, were provided by Thanh Hung Service Co., Ltd., located in Dang Cuong commune, An Duong district, Hai Phong city.

This company has been granted a certificate of food safety eligibility No. 143/2024/ATTP-CNĐK by the City Food Safety and Hygiene Department on June 13, 2024.

According to the Hai Phong City Department of Health, at 12:22 PM on June 27th, approximately 100 people exhibited symptoms such as facial and body rashes, headaches, and a few cases of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

By 4 PM on the same day, a total of 127 workers had been transferred to Viet-Tiep Friendship Hospital, International General Hospital, and An Duong District Health Center for treatment and health monitoring.

At Song Cam Shipbuilding Company alone, 51 workers with mild symptoms (itching, red face, mild headache...) are being monitored at the company.

According to the investigation and quick report of Song Cam Shipbuilding Company, most of the workers with the above symptoms had eaten braised sea fish on the menu. Up to now, the health of the workers is stable, no life-threatening cases have been recorded.
