VTC NewsVTC News21/09/2023

The incident happened when the owner of a bar in Sussex, UK decided to hire a group of workers to clean up the well located in the area of the bar. This well is located in The Abergavenny Arms hotel, built in the 15th century. Over the past 200 years, this place has been used as a courthouse, a morgue and finally a bar.

Lucie Sargent, the owner of the bar, said she didn’t want to leave anything behind in the well anymore, so she hired a team of workers to clean it up. The reason is that this well used to be a place for people to make wishes for centuries. They threw a lot of coins into the well to pray for luck and health.

After a long day of cleaning, the workers recovered 171kg of coins and a lot of jewelry. In addition, there were many other items in the well such as stuffed animals, small knives and dolls. The total value of the items found was about 1,000 pounds (about 30 million VND).

The bar owner said the coins, which have been accumulating for years, could be used to do something more positive for the community. She donated 75% of the value of the “treasure” to Newhaven RNLI, with the rest donated to nearby Rodmell Parish Church.
