Mr. Ho Duc Thang - Director of the National Institute of Digital Technology and Digital Transformation.

At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Science and Technology held on September 26, 2025, answering a reporter's question about bringing AI into primary schools as Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh once said, Mr. Ho Duc Thang said: "AI is a strategic technology. Universalizing AI to the entire population is considered an important task." However, according to Mr. Thang, when bringing AI into schools, a number of issues need to be taken into account. "What is the goal of bringing AI into primary schools? We cannot set the goal of turning children into child engineers." According to Mr. Thang, with this age group, we need to pay attention to creating barriers to protect them. "When bringing AI into the primary education system, there needs to be a list and it needs to be carefully censored to ensure issues such as ethics are at the highest level," Mr. Thang said.

In addition, according to Mr. Thang, instead of focusing on students, we should focus on teachers – who will use AI to create lessons effectively.

Mr. Ho Duc Thang pointed out that a very important issue when approaching AI is ensuring digital infrastructure. “If AI is deployed without adequate infrastructure, it will cause inequality at the lower levels of education.” For this reason, according to Mr. Thang, bringing AI to primary school is necessary but should be selective and have clear goals. “It is best to pilot it first. If successful, it will be replicated,” Mr. Thang concluded.
