Bringing electric tourist boats down the Perfume River, connecting heritage sites

Hue City People's Committee has approved a pilot project for a waterway tourism route connecting heritage sites by electric boat on the Perfume River and its tributaries.

According to the People's Committee of Hue City, with 8 unique tangible and intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO, Hue is a key tourist city of the country.

One of the important factors that form the characteristics of Hue city is the waterway traffic routes, also known as the ancient waterway system associated with the Hue royal architectural complex.

The leaders of Hue City People's Committee believe that developing green transportation, including waterway transportation combined with exploiting the potential of the waterway system's heritage, will contribute to diversifying tourism products.

The pilot project of transporting tourists by electric boat on the Perfume River and its tributaries will help Hue city take the lead in implementing environmental protection and sustainable development policies.

The project aims to help reduce water, air and noise pollution, protect the natural beauty and cultural and historical values of the rivers around the Hue Monuments Complex; and enhance the visitor experience by providing unique eco-tours.

According to Hue city leaders, most of the tourist dragon boats running on fossil fuels on the Perfume River have expired.

Many boat owners do not have the opportunity to reinvest in new boats, and the related workforce loses their jobs. The pilot of green energy transport will contribute to solving difficulties for the tourism industry in Hue city.
