According to the Organizing Committee, in recent days, Typhoon No. 3 (Typhoon Yagi ) has caused very heavy damage to the northern provinces; people in these provinces are struggling to cope with the storm and floods, suffering many losses, pain, and damage to property and lives. Therefore, to show empathy and share with the people of the North, the Organizing Committee of the Mid-Autumn Festival has decided to cancel the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival in Phan Thiet City.

For the large and small lanterns completed by localities and schools: The city's Mid-Autumn Festival judging panel will conduct direct judging at the localities. The prize money and the funds for organizing the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival (due to cancellation) will be transferred by the festival organizing committee to support people in the North affected by storms and floods.
Previously, in preparation for the Mid-Autumn Festival lantern procession in Phan Thiet city, artisans at advertising construction sites had been diligently making large lanterns for many weeks. Observations on the afternoon of September 12th showed that the workshops were still pulling fabric onto iron frames to form the lanterns.
The Mid-Autumn Lantern Procession in Phan Thiet has been held for many years. Every year, nearly 30 large lanterns and 2,320 smaller lanterns from communes, wards, and schools in Phan Thiet city parade through the main streets of the city center.
