Eriksen joined Wolfsburg. |
According to Bild , Eriksen has agreed to a 65% pay cut at Wolfsburg compared to his time at Manchester United. At Old Trafford, the midfielder earns around €10 million per year, significantly higher than his €3.5 million per season at Wolfsburg. This salary is even lower than that of captain Maximilian Arnold (€5 million per year) of the Bundesliga club.
This decision shows that Eriksen wants to continue playing top-level football in Europe, rather than seeking a "retirement" contract in the US or Saudi Arabia.
Before signing a two-year contract with Wolfsburg, Eriksen trained with Malmo FF (Sweden) to maintain his fitness. He attracted interest from several clubs, including Wrexham (England). However, the midfielder insisted he did not want to play for another English club after leaving Manchester United.
For Wolfsburg, the arrival of the 33-year-old midfielder provides another experienced option in the midfield. For Eriksen, this is an opportunity to prove that he is still capable of competing in a fiercely competitive environment like the Bundesliga.
While playing for Manchester United, Eriksen had a breakout first half of the 2022/23 season with 10 assists and 2 goals. However, after suffering a serious injury from a tackle by Andy Carroll, the midfielder's form declined significantly.
In the following season, he only contributed 1 goal and 3 assists, and was gradually excluded from manager Ruben Amorim's plans. When his contract ended, Eriksen was released by MU on a free transfer.
