Nearly 300 athletes compete in the 2023 National Traditional Boat Racing Championship

BTO - On the morning of June 24th, the 2023 National Traditional Boat Racing Championship officially commenced at Bau Trang Lake (part of the Bau Trang National Scenic Area), Hoa Thang commune, Bac Binh district ( Binh Thuan province ).

The competition was jointly organized by the General Department of Physical Education and Sports , the Vietnam Rowing Federation, and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan province. Professor-Doctor Lam Quang Thanh – President of the Vietnam Rowing Federation , and Mr. Nguyen Hai Duong – Director of the International Cooperation Department of the General Department of Physical Education and Sports – Vice President of the Vietnam Rowing Federation, attended the opening ceremony.

On behalf of the Binh Thuan provincial leadership, Mr. Nguyen Minh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with leaders from various departments and agencies, attended the opening ceremony.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee presented commemorative flags to the provinces and cities participating in the competition.

This year's competition features 288 athletes (including 126 female athletes) from 8 provinces and cities nationwide: An Giang, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Binh, Quang Nam , Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, and host province Binh Thuan. The athletes compete in 18 events for men, women, and mixed teams in 10- and 20-seater boats; the three race distances are 1,000 m, 500 m, and 200 m.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Bui The Nhan , Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan province, said: The 2023 National Traditional Boat Racing Championship is being held in a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere, in response to the 2023 National Tourism Year “Binh Thuan – Green Convergence”, with the enthusiastic participation of strong traditional boat racing teams from across the country. This is a sporting event of national significance and scale. This sporting event is jointly organized by the General Department of Physical Education and Sports, the Vietnam Boat Racing Federation, and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan province. At this competition, athletes not only demonstrate solidarity, exchange experiences, and contribute their talents, but also learn more about the natural landscapes, scenic spots , famous tourist areas, and unique cultural features of Mui Ne – Phan Thiet, the homeland and people of Binh Thuan.
