The vulnerability was patched in February, but according to Bkav's statistics, nearly 4 million Vietnamese computers are still at risk of virus attacks because they haven't been patched. Bkav has released a free tool to scan for the vulnerability and provide update instructions.

The vulnerability (identifier CVE-2023-21716) has a near-perfect severity score (9.8/10) and allows remote code execution on the target device. Exploiting this vulnerability, hackers can deploy large-scale virus infection campaigns, thereby gaining remote control of the device, collecting and encrypting data, and downloading and executing other viruses.
Bkav has released a free tool to help users quickly check their computers for vulnerabilities, along with instructions on how to update the patches. Users do not need to install it; they can launch the scan directly at: Bkav.com.vn/Tool/CVE-2023-21716Scan. Computers running Bkav Pro do not need to run this tool as it has an automatic scanning and warning feature.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat, General Director of Bkav's Malware Research Center, said: "Vulnerabilities like these are always attractive to hackers because they exist in common text file types. Meanwhile, with devices that do not have automatic updates enabled, updating patches is not simple, and not everyone can do it."
